1. Introduction 2. Requirements 3.Instructions 4. Tips & Trivia 1. Introduction

Hello, this is IM4MAN. I made a little fox hat for my then unborn niece. Basically, I made this one here for my brother, her dad, in order to torment him and force him to wear it and then take embarassing pictures of them in matching hats. I hope you will have as much as I had with this. I want to thank Faye Newport for her Fantastic Mr Fox pattern (http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/fantastic-mr-fox) and her permission to use it for my patterns. I urge you to check out her pattern, it's awesome, looks cool and it has earflaps!
2. Requirements
You need: yarn: weight Sport/Baby one skein of orange one skein of white one skein of black As usual, I used Schachenmayr nomotta bravo. → you won't need a full skein of either black or white, as they're only going to be used for the ears, you Iam4MAN Designs: Fox Hat (adult) only need a little bit of each. You need: needles: size 3,5mm one set of dpns one circular needle one sewing needle whatever you like to use to weave in ends → you'Re going to have to change to dpns eventually, so you can omit the circular needle. It's down to personal preference if you want to use one or not → I like to have an extra 3,5mm dpn for the top of the hat, so if you have a second set, you could use one of that set, but it's not necessary
You need: techniques
2x2 ribbing stockinette stitch in the round decreasing by knitting 2 together (k2tog) decreasing by slip-slip-knit (ssk) basix sewing skills to sew the ears to the hat
3. Instructions
Hat
In orange, cast on 96 stitches. (when using dpns, distribute the stitches evenly in 24 per needle) Join in the round. Work 15 rounds in 2x2 ribbing. Work 6 rounds in stockinette stitch. /Knit 11, k2tog/ 7 times; you will now have decreased from 96 stitches to 89. Work 12 rounds in stockinette stitch. /Knit 10, k2tog/ 7 times; you will now have decreased from 89 stitches to 82. Work 12 rounds in stockinette stitch. /Knit 9, k2tog/ 7 times; you will now have decreased from 82 stitches to 75. Knit 6 rounds in stockinette stitch. You will now work decreases for the top part, I suggest switching to the dpns if you haven't already. If you have that extra dpns handy, that gives you five needles plus one to work with, so you can distribute the 75 stitches evenly, giving you 15 stitches per needle. If not, I suggest placing 15 stitches per needle and 30 on the last one. /Knit 13, ssk/ 5 times /Knit 12, ssk/ 5 times /Knit 11, ssk/ 5 times /Knit 10, ssk/ 5 times /Knit 09, ssk/ 5 times /Knit 08, ssk/ 5 times /Knit 07, ssk/ 5 times Iam4MAN Designs: Fox Hat (adult) /Knit 06, ssk/ 5 times/Knit 05, ssk/ 5 times/Knit 04, ssk/ 5 times/Knit 03, ssk/ 5 times/Knit 02, ssk 5 times /Knit 01, ssk/ 5 times/ssk / 5 times Cut the yarn leaving a long tail and thread it through the remaining stitches, then pull tight and weave in ends.

Weave in ends Now you need to sew version a to version b, leave the bottom open for now. I like to fill the ears, so that they look nicer and feel better, it also gives them stability. Personally, I use scrap yarn for filling, but if you know something better, you can of course use that. If your thread is long enough, you should use the orange one to later sew the ears on the hat. Now that the ears are ready, sew them on the hat. Make sure you place them symmetrically. You can use the little lines the ssk-decreases create for guidance.
