Wicked Woollens
Blodeuwedd Headover
Designed by: Sally Pointer (www.sallypointer.com) Description: In Welsh mythology, Blodeuwedd (pron. Blodd-eye-weth) was a maiden created out of flowers. This vibrant green yarn flecked with jewel bright colours evokes for me that idea of a flowery, grassy meadow, and the open topped slightly organic shaped headdress allows space for far more hair than usually looks good under such a fitted hat. The enclosed neckpiece gives an effect that reminds me very slightly of a medieval wimple, and seems just right for a cool spring morning walk. Finished Measurements (after fulling):

Materials:
Rowan Magpie Tweed (or pure wool aran weight yarn of equivalent swatch gauge); I skein of $100g$ (you will use every last bit of this). I used shade 768, but I think this would also work very well in neutral shades. I set $5\;\mathrm{mm}$ double-pointed needles Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
Gauge:
Gauge is not crucial as the main size adjustment is done during fulling, but as an indication, about I8 stitches $\mathrel{\mathop{:}}$ inch in stockinette stitch (before fulling and unblocked)
Pattern Notes:
k2tog= knit two together $\mathsf{p}=$ purl $\mathbf{k}=$ knit

You should have 64 stitches in total Round 64Wrking i2:2rib (knit 2: purl 2),work until youare almost ut of yarn, thn cast offloosely, th is important to ensure the neck will pass over the head when putting the headover on. Using a needle, secure cast off tail. Weave in ends. To Finish: (Optional- some yarn may not require this stage, try on the headover and make your final deci sion based on the fit at that stage) Lightly machine wash (on a cool short cycle) to very slightly shrink and full the hat, then block to shape. It is always better to under wash the first time and repeat if needed than risk over shrinking by going for too hot and vigorous a wash.
