Size : 1-3 (4-6) 7-9 months Yarn : Approximately 80 yards of Gjestal Baby Ull (or any fingering weight yarn) in main color & 50 yards in a contrasting color. In the pattern the main color will be referred to as MC and the contrasting color as CC. Needles & Notions : US 11/2 - 2.5 mm DPNs (or Circular needles for magic loop). Tapestry needle. Gauge : 10 sts = 1 inch in stranded charted pattern.
Pattern Notes
Selbuvotter are traditional mitten patterns coming from Selbu, Norway. These mittens are patterned after the traditional rose or snowflake pattern seen in Selbuvotter. They also a good use of leftover fingering sock yarn. Remember that when working stranded patterns it is important to carry your secondary color while knitting. I suggest that you carry your secondary color every 2 stitches. Pattern :
Cast on 36 (40) 44 sts with your preferred stretchy CO, (I suggest the long-tail CO) and divide evenly on 3 DPNs. Work the cuff in K1 P1 ribbing as follows: 6 rounds in MC (main color) 2 rounds in CC (contrasting color) 4 rounds in MC 2 rounds in CC 3 rounds in MC 1 round in CC 3 rounds in MC 2 rounds in CC 4 rounds in MC 2 rounds in CC 6 rounds in MC Knit 1 round in MC. Begin chart corresponding to the desired size. Please note that decreases start on round 16(15) 16. Upon finishing the chart, cut yarn and thread it onto a tapestry needle. Run yarn through remaining stitches and pull tight. Weave in ends and enjoy!
