Easy Shell Bookmark Crochet Pattern for Beginners with Thread and Steel Hook

Shell Bookmark

This bookmark is a great way to use up those scraps of thread leftover after a larger project. It's a fast and easy pattern, and is great for the beginner to thread.

Finished size:

Approx. 21/2"x8" after blocking Skill level: Easy Supplies and tools: Approx. 100 yds. size 10/ bedspread weight thread in colour of choice. Size 7/ 1.65 mm steel hook Gauge/tension: Not important

Stitches and abbreviations used:

Beg: beginning Sh: shell Ch: chain Sk: skip Dc: double crochet Sl st: slip stitch Hdc: half double crochet Sp: space Hk: hook St(s): stitch(es) Lp(s): loop(s) Yo: yarn over

Special Stitches:

Shell (sh): (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) all in same sp.

Instructions:

Foundation: Ch 3, dc in 3rd ch from hk, (ch 5, dc in 3rd ch from hk) 11 times. [12 lps] Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as 1st dc now and throughout), dc in last lp of foundation, (ch 2, 2 dc in same lp) twice, (sk next 2 ch, sh in next Ip) 10 times, sk next 2 ch, (sh, ch 2, sh, ch 2, sh) in last lp. Continuing around the foundation on the opposite side, (sk next 2 ch, sh in next lp) 10 times, sk next 2 ch, (sh, ch 2, 2 dc) in last Ip. Join with hdc to top of beg ch 3. [26 sh] Round 2: Ch 3, (dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in same sp, (sh in next ch 2 sp) around. Join with sl st to top of beg ch 3. [30 sh] Round 3: Sl st to 1st ch 2 sp, ch 3, (dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in same sp, (ch 2, sh in next sh) 2 times, (sh in next sh) 11 times, (ch 2, sh in next sh) 4 times, (sh in next sh) 11 times, ch 2, sh in next sh, ch 2, join with sl st to top of beg ch 3.

Finishing:

Finish off and weave in all ends.
