Open Block Barbie Dress & Top
By Vicki Johnson July 2014 This is a little dress worked from the top down and in the round. The open blocks can be left open or you could weave some ribbon in and out of the stitches for a different look. The top is a shortened version of the dress.
Materials:
ad (Aunt Lydia's #10 Crochet Cotton was used for the above dresses and top Size 7 (1.65) hook
Abbreviations:
Sc - single crochet Hdc - half double crochet St(s) - stitch(s) Skp st - skip stitch Ch - chain
Directions:
Work foundation single crochet for 30 stitches. Join to work in the round. All rows are rounds. Rows 1-6: ch 1; sc in each stitch around; join in 1st single crochet. (30 sc) At the end of the sixth row the dress measures approximately % inch. Row 7 (Open block row): Ch 3; skp one st; \*hdc in next st; ch 1; skp one st\* around; join in second beginning chain. (15 blocks) Rows 8-10: Ch 1; sc around; join in 1st st. (The first row after an open block row do a sc in each hdc and ch st around). (30) Row 11: Repeat row 7. Rows 12 - 14: Ch 1; sc around; join in 1"t st. (The first row after an open block row do a sc in each hdc and ch st around). Stop here for the top and work one row of reverse single crochet; join and fasten off. Row 15: Repeat row 7. Row 16: : Ch 1; sc around; join in 1st st. (The first row after an open block row do a sc in each hdc and ch st around). (30) Row 17 (increase round): ch 1; \*sc in 4 sts, 2 sc in next st\* around; join (36 sc) Row 18: ch 1, sc around; join. Row 19 (increase round): ch 1 \*sc in 5 sts, 2sc in next st\* around; join (42 sc) Rows 20-29: ch 1, sc around; join Row 30: Repeat row 7. (21 blocks) Rows 31-33: Ch 1; sc around; join in 1"t st. (The first row after an open block row do a sc in each hdc and ch st around). (42 sc) Row 34: Repeat row 7. Row 35: ch 1, reverse single crochet in each hdc and ch 1 st around; join; fasten off and weave in ends.
