SDediebal Pouch Charts compied by Wwendi Dunlap

Since I posted my Medieval Pouch projects on Ravelry, several people have asked me if they may use these charts. Certainly you may! The chart on the left is the one I knitted. The green repeating “ladders" are a nod to my SCA badge, a ladder bendwise vert. The chart on the right is the same, except the ladders have been replaced with styl. ized Arabic text saying “baraka", meaning “blessed." This motif is adapted from one in Rutt's History of Hand Knitting. I don't read Arabic, though, so I can't guarantee it's correct! The motifs on these pouches, with the exception of the cat section, are drawn from actual medieval knit items. The cats (and the flower) were drawn by me, but they are meant to be a similar style to some of the stylized animals seen in Rutt's book. To knit these pouches, just cast on 78 stitches of worsted weight yarnonUS5 or 6needles.Knit until the chart's done placingmarkers at thebeginning and halfway around), sew up the bottom, weave drawstrings through the top, and add tassels! Voila!
