Instructions:
Cast On 76 (92,108) stitches evenly on 4 needles (you can use whatever method you'd like for knitting circularly, I just like 5 needles), join and mark beginning of round being careful not to twist stitches. Knit in stockinette stitch (knit every round) for 10cm (4"); 16cm (6"); 18cm (7") Begin decreases for crown every other row (decrease round, knit one round even) 1)\*k7 (9,11), k2tog, k8 (10,12), k2tog (repeat from \* to end of round 2,4,6,8,10,12) KNIT 3 $^{\star}{\sf k}6$ (8,10), k2tog, k7(9,11), k2tog (repeat from \* to end of round) 5)\*k5 (7,9), k2tog, k6 (8,10), k2tog (repeat from \* to end of round) 7)\*k4 (6,8), k2tog, k5 (7,9), k2tog (repeat from \* to end of round) 9)\*k3 (5,7), k2tog, k2 (6,8), k2tog (repeat from \* to end of round) 11) $\mathbf{\hat{\mu}}_{\mathbf{K}2}$ (4,6), k2tog, k3 (5,7), k2tog (repeat from \* to end of round) $13)^{\star}{\sf k}1$ (3,5), k2tog, k2 (4,6), k2tog (repeat from \* to end of round) Decrease EVERY round Larger sizes only 14) $^{\star}{\sf k}_{2}$ (4), k2tog, k3 (5), k2tog (repeat from \* to end of round) 15) $\mathbf{\hat{\mu}}\mathbf{k}\mathbf{1}$ (3), k2tog, k2 (4), k2tog (repeat from \* to end of round) Next 2 rows for largest size only 16) $^{\star}{\sf k}_{2}$ , k2tog, k3, k2tog (repeat from \* to end of round) 17) $\mathbf{\hat{\mu}}\mathbf{k}\mathbf{1}$ , k2tog, k2, k2tog (repeat from \* to end of round) Next round (all sizes) decrease 5 stitches evenly, 15 stitches remaining, break yarn and leave remaining 15 stitches on needles.

Using new yarn, purl 3 stitches. This will be the first petal, leave the other stitches on the needles as they will be used to make the remaining petals. If there are more than 3 stitches on this needle, you may want to move the extra stitch(es) to one of the other needles. Turn work, this will now be the right side (or top side) of the flower petal 1)sl1 knitwise, m1, yo, k1tbl, yo, m1, k1 2) sl1 purlwise, p to end 3) sl1 knitwise, m1, k2, yo, k1tbl, yo, k2, m1, k1 4) repeat row 2 5) sl1 knitwise, m1, k4, yo, k1tbl, yo, k4, m1, k1 6) repeat row 2 7) sl1 knitwise, k4, k2tog, yo, k1tbl, yo, ssk, k5 8) repeat row 2 9) repeat row 7 10) sl1 knitwise, ssk, k9, k2tog, k1 11) repeat row 2 12) sli knitwise, ssk, k7, k2tog, k1 13) repeat row 2 14) sli knitwise, ssk, k1, sk2p, k1, k2tog, k1 15) repeat row 2 16) sl1 knitwise, k1, sk2p, k2 17) repeat row 2 18) sli knitwise, sk2p, k1 19) p2tog, place stitch just made back on left needle and pass second stitch over this stitch, one stitch remaining 20) BO last stitch Once all 5 petals are complete pick up approximately 15 stitches from the bases of the petals and join for knitting in the round. Round 1& 2 kfb each stitch around knit 1 round even Cast off, loosely.
Optional Bottom Ruffle:
Pick up and knit approx. 75 (92, 108) stitches around the brim of the hat (this is optional, it looks quite cute with just a rolled brim as well as shown in the photos at the top). Round 1: Kfb in each stitch knit one round even Cast off all stitches loosely. Note: If you would like your ruffle more “ruffly" do 2 rounds of increases and then knit a couple of rounds and cast off...it's up to you...

Finishing:
Weave in all ends.... \*note when weaving in ends around top ruffle, use one of the strands to gather the ruffle at the base and close the hole at the top of the hat.
