The well thought out but untested MSS recipe:

Begin
2 circular needles at least $24^{\prime\prime}$ long, two sizes apart. Chrochet hook corresponding to larger circular needle. For heavier yarn or larger scarves move to a needle at least 36 "long. Shell Pattern \*\* in next st, \*dc, ch1,\* 2x,dc(Shell), draw a loop through nxt 3 sts, chain(cluster)\*\*repeat to er Picot pattern $^{*}4$ sc in nxt 4 sts, ch 3, s st in first chain\*repeat across.

Using the cable cast on and the smaller circular needle, cast on desired number of stitches. This number should be a multiple of 4, minus 1. Example:100- $.1{=}99$ , so cast on 99.

Set up
Row 1(rs) Knit across. The first two and last two sts are selvedge sts. Row 2 Knit across. Repeat
Inc row: K2\*yo, ${\bf k1^{*}}$ ,rpt to within last 3 sts, yo, k2. Work even rows.
Work in this pattern: inc row, even rows for desired length. See chart for details. After last increase row, work 1 row even and begin edging. Edging: See chart for a visual explanation. With rs facing, attach with sl st in first ridge from cast on edge, sc in same st, sc in each ridge st along selvedge to within last st, in last st, sc, ch2, sc,(corner made), sc in 2 selvedge st, sc in yo st, in next st dc,ch2, dc(half shell made) in next 3 sts draw a loop these 3 st, chain(cluster made),

\*\* in nextst,\*dc, ch1,\* 2x,dc(Shel) in nxt stsc cluster\*\*repeat to within lat 3sts, make half shell sc in yo t, sc in selvedgests, make corner, sc ineach ridge alng selvedge, infirst st on cast onedge make corner, sc in nxt st, 4 sc in nxt 4 sts, ch3, slst in first chain\*repeat to within last st make corner, join with slst to beginning of round Weave in any ends. Blocking is difficult and time consuming, and may be skipped
