Stainen Blass
Slouchp bat or Beanite Deborah Tomasello

The Stained Glass Hat can be knit as a close-fitting beanie or as a slouchy-fit hat.Either way, this classically beautiful design contains the vibrant colors that reflect light in our favorite stained glass windows. I created a tweed blend using Bre-Aly Cotton Threads, and combined with Brenda's Black 3-ply Solid, your knitting results in a warm, stranded hat showing off the panes and arches of the stained glass design. Because it is knit with cotton, it is a great accessory for all seasons Size: Adult and Teen 21"- 23" head circumference Materials: 1 50g ball of Bre-Aly Cotton Tweed: colorway-- Stained Glass Tweed (4 strands comprise the Stained Glass colorway. Listed as heavy fingering, it works up as regular fingering, and it works to the same gauge as fingering.) and 1 5Og ball of Bre-Aly 3-Ply Solid—colorway: Black. (You will use only part of each ball. One 16" #2 circular needle, one 16" #3 needle, and four #3 DPNs (or size needed to obtain gauge) Stitchmarkers Tapestryneedle 3 yards elastic thread (Black) Gauge: 32 stitches = 4" using #3 needles. Abbreviations: K2TOG = Knit two stitches together. SSK = Slip one stitch, then slip the next. Insert left needle into the front loops of the slipped stitches and knit them together from this position. bM1: This is not "the" M1 stitch. It is the Bumpless m1. It is a modification of KFB. See my video tutorial here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=syFeOy1B90k Instructions: With #2 circular needle and Black, CO 136 sts. Join to work in round, placing stitch marker and being careful not to twist stitches. Add Stained Glass Tweed, and knit 12 rounds corrugated rib. On final ribbing round, increase to 168 sts as follows: knit first 2 sts and purl the next two sts. Then, (k1, bumpless m1\*, knit 1, purl 2) around to last 4 sts), k4. \* Bumpless m1 Increase (see tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=syFeOy1B90k ) For Slouchy Fit: Follow CHART (7 repeats per round) for 68 rounds, decreasing as indicated and switching to DPNs when necessary. It helps to place markers every 24 sts to make decreasing easier. (Each decrease (dec) round has 2 decreases next to each other; k2tog for first dec at beginning of each wedge of dec round and ssk for second dec of each wedge of dec round.) After round 68, with 14 sts on the needles, k2tog around. 7 sts remain. Knit last seven sts for 5 rounds (as an i-cord); cut yarn leaving a tail several inches long. Move all sts from needles to tapestry needle, and pull tightly. Secure from the inside. For Close-Fitting Beanie: Begin working CHART on round12, rather than round 1. Then follow instructions as written above. Finishing: Tie and weave in or trim all color change ends. Wash and block to fit. Copyright @ 2016 by Deborah Tomasello All rights reserved.
