CHEVROID
★ sensational stash-busting mind-numbing toroid scarf

Knitting this scarf in the round eliminates the need to weave in the ends. Grafting it into a toroid completely hides the wrong side. If you don't like grafting (Kitchener stitch), you can leave the scarf ends open and finish it by adding tassels or Required skills: Knit and/or purl in the round (circular or dpns), (k1, yo, k1) or (p1, yo, p1) in the same stitch, and knit 3 together as a central chain decrease. Optional skills: Provisional cast on and grafting (Kitchener stitch). Yarn and needles: The scarf shown here was made with a few yards less than 2 skeins of Knit Picks Aloft (Lace 2 ply, 75% Mohair, 25% Silk, 2x 246 yds/25g) on 16" circular needles, US 3 (3.25 mm). Gauge is not critical and could be adjusted depending on the stash to bebusted. Finished size: 58" long and 12" wide flat (29"x 6" doubled) Pattern: Multiple of 12 sts Cast on 84 sts to knit in the round. For the toroid scarf, use provisional cast on to graft the ends together. For the tubular scarf, any type of loose cast on will do. Knit one row, purl one row, then begin the pattern as follows: row 1: [k9, k3tog] row 2: [p4, (p1, yo, p1) in next st, p4, k1] row 3: k10, k3tog, [k9, k3tog] row4sameasrow2 Notes: The pattern can be worked in either garter or stockinette stitch. Here, the garter version is used, and since it is knit in the round, every other row has to be purled. For added texture, I knit several white rows here and there in garter stitch. Grafting will be easier if last row is knit or purled instead of being worked in pattern. ★[repeat] ★ K3tog (central chain decrease): slip first 2 sts as if to knit, knit third st and then pass two slipped sts together over the knit stitch ★ On every odd row, except 1st, there's 1'extra' stitch before the first k3tog because sts are made and decreased on different rows. Not the case if you knit flat using multiple of 12 plus 3 (see for example A Second Treasury of Knitting Patterns by Barbara Walker, p.95). ★ When grafting, make sure that peaks of one end are aligned and fit into the valleys of the other end, use safety pins for aligning the first peak-valley pair. ★ This pattern is free for personal use only.
