? Left glove
Start thumb gusset: \* Work Round 2 of Hand Eyelet Lace as follows: K8, PM, M1, K1, M1, PM, K39 48 hand stitches due to having “borrowed"1 stitch to start the gusset. Disregard the gusset stitches between the markers when counting in lace pattern.) \* ++ Continue with remaining rounds of Hand Eyelet Lace, working eyelet round over 47 stitches (K18, SSK, YO, K7, K2tog, K18) & increasing 1 stitch at either end of the thumb gusset every 4th round until there are a total of 13 thumb gusset stitches. Take care to ensure eyelets line up. \* Thumb gusset increases will be worked on Rounds 6, 1, 5, 9 and 4. \* Next row (Round 5) - Knit to 1st marker. Remove marker & transfer the next 13 stitches to scrap yarn. Remove 2nd marker, M1 by picking up the stitch just below the first stitch on the left needle, knitting it, and knitting to end of round. 48 sts on needles, 13 gusset sts on hold. \* Continue in pattern over 48 stitches for 9 more rounds (Hand Eyelet Lace Rounds 6-9, then 1-5) or until palm measures %2" less than desired final length . Resume regular pattern stitch count for Round 1/eyelet round as you replaced the gusset stitch that had been “borrowed." \* Next 5 rounds: K1TBL, P1\* to end. Bind off. Thumb: Remove 13 sts from scrap yarn and divide between 2 DPNS. Attach new yarn, pick up 7 stitches, and join in the round. = 20 sts. Knit 6 rounds. Bind off.
Right glove
Start thumb gusset: \* Work Round 2 of Hand Eyelet Lace as follows: K39, PM, M1, K1, M1, PM, K8 (Note: 1 hand stitch has now become the center stitch of the gusset. There will be 47 instead of 48 hand stitches due to having “borrowed"1 stitch to start the gusset. Disregard the gusset stitches between the markers when counting in lace pattern.) \* Work remainder of glove as for left hand from ++ to bind off. \* Work thumb as for left hand. Finishing: Weave in all ends, using long tail in the thumb web space to sew up any gaps made where stitches were picked up. Launder and lightly block lace on cuffs. \* Cut ribbon into 1-yard lengths for shorter gloves; 1.25-yard lengths for longer gloves. Starting at the eyelet holes over the knuckles, lace the ribbon through eyelets and tie in a bow at cuff. For fuller lacing as shown in black glove photo, take a second length of ribbon and start lacing, filling in the unlaced areas up the arm. As the lacing is decorative and not structural, be sure to leave plenty of ease. Alternatively, start lacing at the cuff and tie bows over the hand. \* Ribbon widths wider than 3/8" will stretch/distort the eyelet holes and is not recommended.
