Notes
Gauge and exact stitch counts are not important for this shawl design. The border is very forgiving i you do more or fewer rows in the body. Fudge a couple stitches if needed on any row. Stitch markers help to keep the top edge neat. After the ch2 & turn on the sc rows, place a marker in the first sc in the next row. This shows the last sc to stitch into at the end of the next row. At each sc row end, ch2 (does not count as stitch, do not stitch into this ch2 tch on the next row). This gives more flexibility to the top edge of the shawl. At each esc, hdc and dc row end, ch3 or ch4 as indicated (counts as a stitch, stitch into this ch3 or ch4 tch on the next row) On sc increase rows, if the number of stitches does not work out exactly even, only do the last 2sc increase if there are 4 or more stitches remaining in the previous row after the increase. If there are less than 4 stitches remaining in the previous row after the increase, omit the last 2sc increase. . On the lace rows, fudge a stitch or two if needed.
