Shore Baby Pattern assumes a familiarity with knitting socks toe-up two at a time. The average baby foot is 1 inch in circumference and 3 inches long. 1 skein sport weight yarn (yarn used: cascade 220 superwash sport - 275) size 2 (2.75cm) circular needles(40-47 inch) gauge: 7 stitches per inch in stockinette Twist Stitch: knit two together do not drop from needle, insert needle between these two stitches and knit the first stitch again, then slip both stitches from the needle. directions: pattern is knit 2 at a time using magic loop method [I learned this method from Melissa Morgan-Oakes' book - “Toe-Up Two at a Time Socks.] Using Judy's Magic Cast On [http:/knitty.com/ISSUEspring06/FEATmagiccaston.html] cast on 6 stitches for each sock. Round 1 - knit Round 2 - knit, make 1 right, knit to 1 stitch before end, make 1 left, knit 1 Repeat these 2 round until 14 stitches are on each side or a total of 28 stitches per sock. Place marker to designate instep of sock. Begin chart on instep keeping sole stitches in stockinette. On round 5 when you reach the double yarn over knit the first yarn over normally and the second through the back loop. Repeat chart until foot measures 3" (I did 3 repeats) Work row 1 of instep. Heels are worked individually Short row heel: Row 1: knit 14 stitches turn Row 2: Purl 13 stitches turn. Row 3: Wrap yarn over right needle backwards (forming a loop), knit 12 stitches, turn. Row 4: Wrap yarn over right needle backwards (forming a loop), purl 11 stitches, turn. Row 5: Wrap yarn over right needle backwards(forming a loop), knit 10 stitches, turn. Row 6: Wrap yarn over right needle backwards(forming a loop), purl 9 stitches, turn. Row 7: Wrap yarn over right needle backwards(forming a loop), knit 8 stitches, turn. Row 8: Wrap yarn over right needle backwards(forming a loop), purl 7 stitches, turn. Row 9: Wrap yarn over right needle backwards(forming a loop), knit 6 stitches, turn. Half of the heel is done! Row 11: wrap yarn over right needle backwards(forming a loop), purl 6, purl 2 together, turn. Row 12: wrap yarn over right needle backwards(forming a loop), knit 7, knit 2 together, turn. Pay attention here! Row 13: wrap yarn over right needle backwards(forming a loop), purl 8, purl 3 together, turn. Row 14: wrap yarn over right needle backwards(forming a loop), knit 9, knit 3 together, turn. Row 15: wrap yarn over right needle backwards(forming a loop), purl 10, purl 3 together, turn. Row 16: wrap yarn over right needle backwards(forming a loop), knit 11, knit 3 together, turn. Row 17: wrap yarn over right needle backwards(forming a loop), purl 12, purl 3 together, turn. Row 18:wrap yarn over right needle backwards(forming a loop), knit 13, purl 3 together. Repeat on second heel. Follow next row of chart for instep stitches (wherever you left off. If you did 3 full repeats and then round 1 you are now on round 2). When you get to the heel stitches pick up the bar between the instep and heel and knit it together with the first heel stitch to close the gap. Knit to before the last stitch, slip the last stitch and pick up the bar between the instep and heel. Slip the bar and then knit the two stitches together as a SSK to close the gap. Next round - knit the instep stitches according to the chart and then repeat the chart on the back of the leg. Continue working the chart until the leg reaches the desired height minus the cuff. [I finished the row after the heel and another repeat so basically 2 repeats] Work cuff in 1x1 twisted ribbing - purl 1, knit 1 through the back loop around. Repeat until the cuff is about 1" high or desired height [I did six rounds]. Bind off using a stretchy bind off such as Jenny's Suprisingly Stretchy bind off.
