Monster High Safari Suit For Skull Shores Explorer Frankie Stein
By Mrs Lettice Weasel I fell head over heels in love with the safari suit Frankie wears in Skull Shores and had to knit one up. This pattern contains three items - the pith helmet, shorts and a top with the belt knitted onto the bottom.
Ingredients:
4 ply in grey and black. A set of 2.25mm dpns Poppers for back Tapestry needle for sewing in ends Stitch markers Safety pins or stitch holders

Gauge: 7 st and 12 rows in 1 inch square.
Shorts
In grey, cast on 30 st Work 3 rows k1, p1 rib. Beginning with a knit row work 8 rows in stockinette stitch. Next row: k6, ml, kl, ml, k1,m1, k1,m1, k1,m1, k10,ml, k1, ml, kl,ml, kl,ml, kl,m1, k6. (40 stitches) Purl 1 row Next row: knit 20, put remaining stitches on hold for other leg. Cast on 2 stitches and join to knit in the round (22 stitches) Work in the round for 25 rounds. Cuff: k1, k2tog to end (14 stitches) Purl next 2 rounds. Cast off in purl. Return stitches on hold to the needle, pick up 2 stitches under the leg and join to work in the round. (22 stitches). Work second leg for 25 rounds and cuff as for first leg. Sew in ends and sew a popper to back of shorts to close.
Pith Helmet
(The pith Helmet could be cast on with the yarn held double to get a firmer hem. The example in the picture was not cast on with the yarn held double.) With grey yarn, cast on 60 stitches. Join to work in the round and work 6 rounds Next round: k5, k2tog 10 times, k10, k2tog 10 times, k5. (40 stitches) Knit 20 rounds. Next round: [k1, k2tog] repeat to end. Next 2 rounds: [k2tog] repeat to end. Cut yarn and thread through last 7 stitches - gather and sew securely. Using black yarn, work a row of chain stitch across the front of the hat. Safari Jacket The neck and collar of the jacket is made in two separate parts. These are knitted together below the V of the neck and the body is then knitted in one piece to the bottom hem which includes the belt. Neck & Collar (make 2) With grey yarn, cast on 11. purl one row placing marker either side of the central stitch. Row 1: k5, m1, slip marker, m1, k5 (13 st) Row 2 and all odd rows: purl Row 3: k6, m1, slip marker, m1, k6 (15 st) Row 5: k7, m1, slip marker, m1, k7 (17 st) Row 7: k8, m1, slip marker, m1, k8 (19 st) Row 9: k8, m1,k3, m1, k8 (21 st) Row 10: purl put all stitches on hold and work second neck & collar. put both neck & collar pieces on same needle with right sides facing you and knit row ll across both pieces: Row 11: k8, m1, k5, m1,k7, k2tog, k7, m1, k5, m1, k8 (45 st) Row 12: purl Row 13 (divide for sleeves): k8, slip next 9 stitches onto a stitch holder for sleeve, cast on 1, k13, cast on 1, slip next 9 stitches onto a stitch holder for other sleeve, k8. (29 st) Row 14: purl Row 15: k10, k2tog, k5, k2tog, k10 (27 st) Row 16: purl Row 15: k10, k2tog, k3, k2tog, k10 (27 st) Continue in stockingette stitch for 13 rows. Next row (rs) k3, [m1, k4] repeat to last 2 stitches, m1, k2. (31 st) work 5 rows stockingette Next row (rs) k4, [m1, k5] repeat to last 2 stitches, m1, k2. (37 st) work 3 rows stockingette Change to black yarn and work 1 more row in stockingette. Work 2 rows k1,p1 rib and cast off.
Sleeves
Slip 9 sleeve stitches onto dpns and pick up 2 extra stitches under arm. Working in the round, work in stockingette stitch for 16 rounds. purl 3 rounds, cast off in purl.
Belt pouches (make 2)
With black, cast on 5. Work in stockingette for 16 rows. Cast off. Fold over and sew onto black strip at the bottom of the jacket with a grey yarn to imitate buttons. Sew poppers up the back of the jacket ensuring that you put one right at the top of the back. You might also want to stitch the points of the collars down with one loose stitch each so they don't curl up.
