Mina Hat

Materials:
- Fine yarn, Sport 5 ply or DK, approx. 3.5 ounce [100 grams] - Double pointed knitting needles (or circular knitting needles), US size 4 and 6 (or size needed for gauge) [EU 3.5 mm and 4 mm] - Markers
Gauge:
24-26 stitches (4 in / 10 cm)
Abbreviations:
DPN = Double Pointed Needle K =Knit K2T = Knit Two Together KFB = Knit Front Back; knit both front and back loop of a stitch, turning one stitch into two PSSO = Pull Slipped Stitch Over SL1 = Slip One Stitch (without knitting it)
Rib Stitch - 2 x 2:
Needle Size 11 [8 mm] Row 1: (K2, P2) across Repeat Row 1 for pattern
Pattern:
Cast on 108 stitches, needle size 4 [EU 3.5 mm] Rows 1 - 15: Rib Stitch -> approx. 1.5" [4 cm] Change to larger size needles Row 16: KFB the entire row -> 216 stitches Row 41: K2T the entire row -> 108 stitches Row 42: Purl Row 43: Knit Row 44: Knit while placing markers after every 18th stitch (making 6 sections of 18 stitches) Row 45: \*Knit to three stitches in front of marker, SL1, K2T, PSSO, slip marker\*, repeat from \* to \* -> 96 st. Row 46 & 47: Knit Row 48: \*Knit to three stitches in front of marker, SL1, K2T, PSSO, slip marker\*, repeat from \* to \* -> 84 st. Row49&50:Knit Repeat rows 48 - 50 until 12 stitches are left K2T the entire row, cut yarn and pull through the remaining 6 stitches. Bind off. OR

K2T the entire row and slip the 6 remaining stitches on a DPN. Knit the 6 stitches with another DPN. Instead of turning the needle after knitting, slide the stitches to the other end (the right) of the DPN and knit them again. Slide them to the right side of the needle again, etc. This will form a cord. You can make this cord as long as you please. When desired length is reached, cut yarn and pull through the 6 stitches. Bind off.
Larger / smaller:
If you want this hat to be larger or smaller, you can increase or decrease the stitches by 6, 12, 18, etc. The number of stitches between the markers will increase or decrease as well. For example.: if you start knitting 96 stitches, the number of stitchesbetween themarkerswill be 16.
