Argosy Baby Blanket
By Vyvyan Neel http://inahappycamper.eponym.com/blog The Argosy series continues. The baby blanket is a beefed up version using a larger gauge yarn and with a grid that has more stockinette stitches and rows for each "square". It resembles a rectangular shape but Is a bit skewed (refer to schematics to see what I mean). The cotton yarn used in this version is very soft and does not stress your hands like some other cotton yarns do but beware of some (not much) loose fuzz. The blanket works up quicker than you'd think and there's even yarn to spare so you can work lots of embroidered flowers (try it, they're easy). The yarn is avallable in many fun shades so there's a color that's just right for the recipient in mind. And it could even be used as a lap blanket for bigger folks in transitional seasons.

To make up a more “square" version, use Kay Gardiner's advice: When you're at the halfway point with your yarn, that's the point where you need to start the decreasing part. For example, if you have 6 skeins, while working with the $3^{r d}$ skein, work the first decrease part toward the end of that skein.
Materials:
Blue Sky Cotton IOO% color: color: Pumpkin #622 10 gms/1 50 yds. 6 skeins US #9 (5.5 mm) needles Tapestry needle Gauge: 16 sts x 24 rows in stockinette st Finished size: 54 inches long by 47 wide (refer to schematic drawing)

Pattern Notes:
Note I: When casting on, always use the Knitted-On Cast On method. Note that this is different from the original Argosy pattern published on Knitty.com. Note 2: A schematic is included. If a chart is desired, please email me (vyvneel[atjsbcglobal[dot}net). It's hard to get it to print clearly on letter size paper. Note 3: Odd-numbered rows are RS rows and evennumbered rows are wS rows.
