Aran-ish
Aran-style sweater for Build-a-Bear teddies 18"/40cm tall. Designed with slight negative ease for a snug fit, the sweater has a buttoned envelope neck for easy dressing. The sleeves are worked downwards from the armhole edge to eliminate bulky seaming. SCHEMATICS INCLUDED Yarn: 50g Sirdar Denim Sport Aran (or any sportweight yarn) Needles: $3.5\mathsf{m m}\,/\,\mathsf{U S}\,4$ (or size to give gauge) Notions: 2 small buttons for shoulders Gauge: 20 sts / 28 rows to $4^{\prime\prime}$ over stocking stitch

ABBREVIATIONS
Standard pattern abbreviations are used. Other abbreviations: $\mathsf{T2K=}$ twist 2 knitwise, by knitting into the back of the 2nd stitch on the LH needle, then into the front of the 1st stitch and working them off together $\mathsf{T}2\mathsf{R}=$ twist 2 to right, by knitting into the front of the 2nd stitch on the LH needle, then purling into the 1st stitch ${\sf T2}{\sf L}=$ twist 2 to left, by purling into the back of the 2nd stitch on the LH needle, then knitting into the 1st stitch
BACK
Cast on 44 sts and work in patt as follows: Row 1 (WS): K9, (p2, k10) twice, p2, k9 Row 2: P9, (T2K, p10) twice, T2K, p9 Rows 3 & 4: as rows 1 & 2 Row 5: as row 1 Row 6: (P8, T2R, T2L) 3 times, p8 Row 7: (K8, P1, k2, p1) 3 times, k8 Row 8: (P8, K1, p2, k1) 3 times, p8 Row 9: as row 7 Row 10: (P8, T2L, T2R) 3 times, p8 Continue in patt until work measures $3^{\prime\prime}$ . Place markers at row ends for sleeve placement. Continue in patt until work measures $5\%^{\prime\prime}$ ,ending with a RS row. Next row: (K1, p1) 4 times, k1, p2tog, (k1, p1) 5 times, k2tog, (p1, k1) 5 times, p2tog, (k1, p1) to end (41 sts) [see TIP] Work 2 more rows in K1, p1 ribbing as set. Cast off in rib.
FRONT
As Back until work measures 7 rows less than Back, thus ending with a WS row. Next row: Patt 27 sts, work 2tog in patt, patt to end. Next row: Patt 16 sts, TURN Continue on these 16sts, working 2tog at neck edge of next and 2 foll alt rows (13 sts) Next row: K9, p2tog, k2 (12 sts). Break off yarn, but DO NOT CAST OFF. Rejoin yarn & work the rem 27 sts as follows: Next row: K3, p1, K2tog, p1, k3, k2tog, patt to end. Continue in patt on the last 16 sts, working 2tog at neck edge of next and foll alt rows to 14 sts, ending at neck edge. Next row: K2tog, k1, p2tog, k to end (12 sts) Next row: K1, p1 across these 12 sts, pick up and knit 5 sts down side of neck, p1, k1 across 10 centre sts, pick up and knit 5 sts up neck edge, p1, k1 across rem 12 shoulder sts. SLEEVES
Pick up and knit 36 sts between the markers at armhole edges as in the diagrams, leaving the Back ribbing free. Work in patt as follows: Row 1 (WS): K17, p2, k17 Row 2: P17, T2K, p17 Rows 3 & 4: as rows 1 & 2 Row 5: as row 1 Row 6: P16, T2R, T2L, p16 Row 7: K16, p1, k2, p1, k16 Row 8: P16, k1, p2, k1, p16 Row 9: as row 7 Row 10: p16, T2l, T2R, p16 Work 10-row patt then repeat rows 1-4 once. Next row: Work 17 sts in K1, p1 rib, p2tog, (k1, p1) to end (35 sts) Work 2 more rows in k1, p1 rib. Cast off in rib.
MAKING UP
Slip stitch the back ribbing underneath the front ribbing at both armhole edges. Sew buttons to Back ribbing to match the buttonholes. Stitch the sleeve and sides in continuous seams.
