Solstice Yarns Northern Star Shawl Pattern by Eleanor Lee - Knitting Instructions for 4Ply Fingering and DK

Eleanor Lee. www.solsticeyarns.co.uk This shawl is worked from end to end and you knit the ruffles as you go..so no stitches to pick up at the end. It can be knitted to any size you like. Divide your yarn into two halves. Use almost half your yarn to increase to the middle of the shawl, then use your other half to decrease down to the end. Short Rows are used to shape the ruffles and an explanation of this is given in the notes at the end of the pattern. The body of the shawl has a textured stitch pattern. Have fun.

_Instructions are given for 4Ply(fingering) with DK instructions in brackets. The shawl is designed with a gradual increase and long front wing sections. If you would prefer a sharper increase with more depth at the back you can add an extra increase and decrease on alternate purl rows. I have explained this in the notes at the end of the pattern. Cast off

Seam the ruffle ends at each end of the shawl (optional) @ Eleanor Lee.2011. All Rights Reserved.ltems made must not be sold. The instructions are written for both 4 ply (fingering) and DK. If you wish to knit this shawl in Aran or Chunky weight simply cast on less stitches for the ruffle border. For Aran I would suggest 6 sts for each border ruffle and 5 for Chunky, then work accordingly.

WRAP AND TURN

ed to prevent a hole appearing when using short rows. Here is a brief explanatior Bring yarn forward between needles and slip the next st purlwise. Take yarn back between needles and turn your work. Slip the stitch from the left needle back to the right. If you are on a purl row continue to purl. If you are on a knit row, take the yarn back between the needles then continue to knit. On the next row, when you come to the wrapped stitches, pick up the wrap and knit it along with the stitch to prevent a hole from appearing. If you want the holes as a design feature , however, just knit the stitch without picking up the wrap.

Shape of Shawl

The shawl is designed to have a gradual increase and long wing sections. If you require a sharper increase into a triangle, giving more depth at the back, you could add an extra increase on alternate purl rows and then an extra decrease on the second half of the shawl. Eg. In the repeated sections work the following rows this way. Row 17) k10 (7), p2, SM, pfb, p to 7 sts before end, k to end Row 41) k10 (7), p2, SM, p2tog, p to 7 sts before end, kto end I'd be happy to advise about this in our Ravelry KAL Pattern support is available from "Solstice Yarns" on Ravelry. We are having a KAL for this pattern on my Solstice Yarns Ravelry group. All welcome
