Yarn:

2 balls of Lily Mercerized Crochet Cotton (100% cotton) - 600 yards (548 meters) per ball Note: This yarn is discontinued but any crochet cotton such as Lion Brand, Chiltern or American Thread Company will work. As this is lace work and it can be gathered on the curtain rod, gauge and yarn are not as important.

Materials:

Size 3 (3.25 mm) knitting needles or size to obtain gauge 8/0 seed beads, approximately 1,0o0 for the completed panel as pictured Stitch markers Tapestry needle

23 rows over 4"/10 cm in pattern, blocked. To save time, take time to check gauge

Introduction:

My house has a sidelight panel by the front door that was a hard size to find sheers that fit. A simple lace panel was just the thing to cover the glass and add some sparkle with beads. Beads are optional in this project.

Pattern

CO 79 stitches. Knit two rows. Begin pattern as follows (or see chart that follows): Row 1: K3 (garter stitch border), pm, K1, \*k2tog twice, (yo, k1) three times, yo, ssk twice, k1, pm. Rep from \* five times, pm, k3 (garter st border). Row 2: K3, p to last three sts, k3. Row 3: Rep row 1. Row 4: Rep row 2. Row 5: Rep row 1. Row 6: Rep row 2. Row 7: Rep row 1. Row 8: Rep row 2. Row 9: If adding beads: K3 for border, k3, \*add bead, k4, rep from \* until one st remains, k1. Without beads, k across row to end. Row 10: K across. Row 11: If adding beads: K8, \*add bead, k4, rep from \* until three sts remain. Add bead, k3. Without beads, repeat row 10. Row 12: K across. Repeat 12 rows until lace panel measures 86 inches. End on Row 12. BO loosely in k. Weave in ends and block. Turn top of lace panel over and sew to form pocket for the curtain rod. Weave in ends.
