Light Seas Hat

Needles: 4mm +4mm circular or dpns Colinette Tao 28g (just over 12 skein) This is a light silk hat suitable for chilly autumn days. The hat is knit as a rectangle which is the seamed at the back and stiches are picked up around the edge and knit in the round to make the top of the hat. It is based on the seafoam stitch. A good tutorial can be found on: http://www.knittingdaily.com/media/g/knitting_daily_tv_videos/default.asp Wrapped Drop Stitch with Eunny Jang, from Knitting Daily TV Episode 904 Seafoam stitch: Wrap yarn twice, K1, wrap yarn 3 time K1, wrap yarn 4 times, k1, wrap yarn 3 times, K1 wrap yarn 2 times, k1. This covers 5 stitches. On following row drop all the wrapped stiches and knit the 5 knit stiches. Pattern: CO28 Row 1: K Row 2: K6, seafoam over next 5 stiches, K6, Seafoam 5, K6 Row 3: Knit dropping all the wrapped stiches Rows 4+5: Knit Row 6: K2, seafoam 5, k5, seafoam 5, k5, seafoam 5, k1 Row 7: K dropping all wrapped stiches Row 8: Knit Repeat these 8 rows 10 times (or until the rectangle is long enough to wrap snugly around your head) Join working edge to cast on edge. I picked up stitches on cast on edge and closed in a 3 needle bind off but you could cast off and sew the seam. Using a circular needle or DPNs Pick up 50 stiches evenly around the knit edge. Knit one round. Next round K8, K2tog Next round K7, K2tog Next round K6, K2 tog Next round k5, K2 tog Next round K 2 tog all round. Pull thread thru stiches. ( If you need the hat to be a bit bigger you could add knit rounds between the decrease rounds). Sew in ends.
