Gertrude Fingerless Mittens: Hand-Dyed SouthDown Wool Knitting Pattern Inspired by Lady Denman

Gertrude

By Alitzah Grant Of Blithe Spirit These fingerless mittens are made in 100% British Wool from SouthDown Yarns The colours reflect the natural beauty of the Sussex countryside as the wool is hand dyed using mainly locally sourced plant based dyes. The wool itself comes from the Southdown sheep flocks of smallholders and farmers in the SouthDown locality. The name Gertrude is a tribute to Lady Denman, a tenacious and formidable woman from the South Downs of Sussex She was a prominent member of the Women's suffrage movement and Director of the Women's Land Army. Lady Gertrude Denman was an enabler of the highest Order!
