Slap My Thigh iPhone Sock: A Knitting Pattern with Cables and Stocking Stitch

Slap My Thigh iPhone Sock

[Feat. Gertrude Garter & Susan Stocking stitch cable]

Needles:

3.5mm DPNs and a cable needle

Yarn:

Malabrigo Merino Worsted in colour of your choice (as many colours as you want, I used one for the ribbing and another for the main body)

Techniques:

I worked the cables without a cable needle. If you don't know how, this is a great project to practice on. Cables without a cable needle: http: / /www.grumperina.com/cables.htm Three needle bind off: http: / /www.knitty.com/ISSUEfall06/FEATfall06TT.html

Terminology:

St-st: stocking stitch C8B: put next 4 stitches on cable needle and hold at the back, knit 4 stitches from left hand needle, knit 4 stitches on cable needle

Garter and Stocking Stitch Cable:

The cable pattern is worked on the front of the iPhone sock over 8 stitches with a K2P1 border on either side. The remainder of the 14 stitches are worked in st-st.

The Magic:

Cast on 28 stitches over 4 DPNs and join in the round, being careful not to twist stitches. Knit 2x2 ribbing for 1 inch. (If you want to use a different colour for the body, switch now) (At this point I divided the stitches between 3 DPNs to make cabling easier - 14, 7 and 7)

Transition: Knit all 28 stitches

Main Body:

Row 1: K2, P1, K8, P1, K2, K14 Row 2: K2, P1, P4, K4, P1, K2, K14 Row 3 - 6: Repeat Row 1 and Row 2, 2 times Row 7: K2, P1, C8B, P1, K2 Row 8: K2, P1, K4, P4, P1, K2, K14 Row: 9: K2, P1, K8, P1, K2, K14 Row 10 - 18: Repeat Row 8 and Row 9, 4 times. Repeat Row 8 Row 19: K2, P1, C8B, P1, K2, K14 Row 20: K2, P1, P4, K4, P1, K2, K14 Row 21: K2, P1, K8, P1, K2, K14 Row 22 - 24: Repeat Row 20 and Row 21, 1 time. Repeat Row 20 Repeat these 24 rows once more. Try the sock on your iPhone to make sure the iPhone's bum doesn't look too big in it. That won't make your iPhone very happy. If the sock is the right size turn your work inside out and divide the stitches over two needles. The front 14 stitches on one needle and the other 14 stitches on another. Cast off using three-needle bind off. Weave in ends. Place your iPhone in its new home and take it for a spin around town.
