Youwill need: 3.0mm dpns Scrap yarn in two contrasting colors (Aran weight; I use Lettlopi from Istex: www.istex.is) Tapestry needle A small piece of waste yarn or a safety pin Abbreviations: M - Make 1; PU - Pick Up; CO - Cast On; K- knit; P - purl; / - k2tog; \- slip 1, knit 1 CO 30 sts with Color A (in my case, it is red) and join in a ring K1P1 for 3 rounds Follow Chart:

In Round 6, use your tapestry needle and a piece of waste yarn or a safety pin to catch the 6 sts (boxed in green in the chart) for the thumb gusset. Continue with round. In Round 7, where the thumb gusset used to be, CO 4 additional sts. Continue with Chart. When you have completed the Chart, to bind off, snip the working yarns and using your tapestry needle, thread through allive sts. Pull gently to gather to a point. Pull tails to the inside and weave off. Thumb: Insert dpn into the 6 live sts of the thumb gusset, removing waste yarn (or safety pin). PU 3 of the CO sts plus 2 on either side. Pick up sts from Round 1 on the Thumb Chart: Finishing: Weaving in tails, leaving a loop at the cuff end to hang.
