Bla Blomma - Blue Flower
A design by Anne B Hanssen Design Bla blomma iz Swedishfor blue flower. And with its delicate flower-pattern in 3 shadez of blue and the lovely lace-border I gave a traditional scandinavian lookto this warming and soft set. The set consistz of a rather close-fitting cowl and wristwarmers, or if you prefer, fingerless gloves. Made in gorgeous soft alpaca it will add both warmth and atouch of femininity to any coladay.
I hope you will enjoy your knitting!

Cowl
The cowl is knitted bottom-up and inthe round. It can easily be madeto other measurementy, adding or subtracting pattern-repeats of 14 st. I made this size in order to be pulled easily over my head and stil be fitting around the neckopening.
Material
I used the soft and gorgeous Superfine 3/ll alpaca-wool from lloyarn. This is a Bolivian alpaca from the heights of La Paz. The Superfine 3/11 comes in balls of 50gr/1.76oz and 183metres/200yards. I think you could substitute it for a similar alpaca, merino, cashmere... as long as you respect the gauge. For your own comfort I think it is important to choose a soft and nice wool to work with! You will need: 50 grams of yarn A - beige 50 grams of yarn B - dark blue 50 grams of yarn C - mid blue 50 grams of yarn D - light blue The colors are, of course, up to your personal taste. There are so many beautiful colors to choosefrom! You will need a circular needle 3,5mm/US4 - approx. 60cm/24" long. If you find the last pattern-repeat difficult to work on this needle you can use a 40cm/16" long needle for this part of the cowl. You will need a stichmarker Size The base of the cowl has a circumference of 68cm/27" The top of the cowl has a circumference of 51cm/l9". This is sufficient to be pulled with ease over a head with 54cm/21" circumference. If your head's circumference is bigger I advise you to add 1 pattern-repeat to the pattern = 14 st at the base/10 st at the top. In that case you will probably need 1o0 grams of wool A. The measurement from top to base is 26cm/10" Gauge Exact gauge is 23,5 st and 32 rows = 10x10cm/4x4"

Important!
One word on stranded color work!
As the flower pattern means that you are going to work st over several st in the same color this means that you have to weave stranded “floats" on the Ws of work. It is a technique for this which is very easy once you know how to do it. In principle you work the working wool for some st under the stranded wool, and some st over the stranded wool. Like this they will be weaves in at the back. There are many excellent videos to watch at Youtube. Search for "how to catch stranded yarn" for instance.

Wrist-warmers
Material
I used the same alpaca as in the cowl. If you make both cowl and wrist-warmers you will need an additional 50 grams in wool A to work the wrist-warmers. The 50 grams of wool B, C and D will be sufficient for working both the cowl and the wrist-warmers. ightly darker color as wool A for the wrist-warmers. Wool B, C and D are identica You will need double-pointed needles 3,5mm/US4 You will need a stichmarker Sizey Size 1: Wrist-circumference 20,5cm/8" Size 2 : Wrist-circumference 24cm/9' Full length, both sizes: 16cm/6,3" Gauge andAbbreviationz See instructions for cowl.
Knitting Instructions Wrist-warmers
The wrist-warmers are knitted from the lace up to the ribbed edge, and in the round on double-pointed needles. If you want you can make them longer by adding pattern-repeats or adding rows to the ribbed edge. With double-pointed needles 3,5mm cast on 56 st. Work 3 rows in garter st, divide st evenly over 4 needles (14 st to each needle) and work in the round from next row. Place marker in I st st. All rows start from marker. All rows are RS rows. Row 1. Work lace-pattern row 1 over 14 st, reading chart from right to left, repeat 3 times (one pattern-repeat on each needle). Continue work following chart for lace, working all 16 rows. Size 1 only: Row 17. Using wool A. (pl,k5, sllk2togpsso, k5) repeat on next 3 needles = you now have 12 st on each needle - 48 st in the round Next row: Start at marker following chart for flowers starting in row 13, reading chart from right to left. Make 1 pattern-repeat on each needle. Continue work following chart working until row 23. Work 1 row of k st in wool A. Make 1 more pattern-repeat working rows13- 23. Work 1 row of k st in wool A. Size 2: Row 17. K all st in wool A. Continue work over the 56 st without decreases. You have 14 st on each needle. Next row: start at marker following chart for flowers starting in row 1, reading chart from right to left. Make 1 pattern-repeat on each needle. Continue work following chart working until row 1l. Work 1 row of k st in wool A. Make 1 more pattern-repeat working rowsl-11. Work I row of k st wool A. If you like to make your wrist-warmers longer you can add pattern-repeats to desired length. Both sizes: Starting from marker continue work in rib-pattern, kl, pl for 10 rows. Cast off in rib-pattern.
