KNITTING PATTERN for Baby Butterfly hat
Sizes: newborn 0-3m/6m/1y With head circumference 14"(36 cm)/17"(43)/18"(46)
Materials:
Fingering yarn, two colors 30-40 g Yarn needle Just a little darker yarn for the butterfly body Pointed knitting needles US 4 (3.5 mm)
Gauge:
4" x 4" = 24 stitches x 34 rows (in stocking stitch)
Hat
Cast on 72/84/90 stitches with yarn B, change to yarn A and work in round Rounds 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5: \*k1, p1\* all across Continue in stocking stitch till the piece measures about 4.5"/5.5"/6" (11.5/14/15 cm). Now continue as follows: Round 1: \*ssk, k4\* all across (60/70/75 stitches left) Rounds 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10: knit all stitches Round 3: \*ssk, k3\* all across (48/56/60 stitches left) Round 5: \*ssk, k2\* all across (36/42/45 stitches left) Round 7: \*ssk, k1\* all across (24/28/30 stitches left) Round 9: \*ssk\* all across (12/14/15 stitches left) Round 11: \*ssk\* all across (knit the last stitch for 1y size) (6/7/8 stitches left) Cut the yarn and pull it through the remaining stitches, fasten. Weave in all ends.
Butterfly
\*Cast on with yarn B 3 stitches and work back and forth for the lower wing: Row 1: k1, kfb, k1 (4 stitches total) Row 2: purl all stitches Row 3: sl1, kfb, kfb, k1 (6) Row 4: purl all stitches Row 5: sl1, kfb, k2, kfb, k1 (8) Row 6: purl all stitches Row 7: knit all stitches Row 8: purl all stitches Row 9: sl1, sk, k till end (7) Row 10: sl1, p2tog, p till end (6) Row 11: sl1, ssk, k till end (5) Row 12: sl1, p2tog, p till end (sl1, p2tog, p till end (4) Row 13: sl1, ssk, k1 (3) Row 14: sl1, p2tog, passo (1). Turn. With right side facing cast on 2 stitches, continue with the bigger wing: Purl all three stitches on WS and now again with right side facing work: Row 1: k1, kfb, k1 (4 stitches total) Row 2: purl all stitches Row 3: sl1, kfb, kfb, k1 (6) Row 4: purl all stitches Row 5: sl1, kfb, k2, kfb, k1 (8) Row 6: purl all stitches Row 7: sl1, kfb, k4, kfb, k1 (10) Row 8: purl all stitches Row 9: sl1, kfb, k6, kfb, k1 (12) Row 10: purl all stitches Row 11: sl1, kfb, k8, kfb, k1 (14) Row 12: purl all stitches Row 13: sl1, ssk, ktill end (13) Row 14: sl1, p2tog, p till end (12) Repeat rows 13 and 14 till you have 3 stitches left, then: sl1, k2tog, passo (1). Cut the yarn.\* Repeat from \*-\* for the other wings, place them on the hat with smaller wings below and sewthem on place. With darker yarn embroider small body for the butterfly. Weave in all ends.
