Notes:

This pattern has been written so it can be worked with minimal cutting and restarting. However, in my opinion it turns out looking better if each round is started fresh. If you choose to continue with the same color and the pattern says to fasten off, don't. Instead ss into stitch indicated. ?If you choose to start a round fresh but the pattern says to continue then fasten off at end of previous round. Next, skip the beginning slip stitches of the round and join directly into the first worked stitch. I strongly recommend printing out page three and working from it on paper. This will make it easier to mark off each round as it's complete.

Pattern:

Carefully straighten out the chain and arrange it so the bottom loops all face inwards. Join with ss to beginning ch. [168 ch] 2. For this round only, do not weave in previous round's tail as you go. Color the following graph in with your MC and CC. Create any sort of simple design you please. Individual squares don't tend to show up very well, so try to make certain that for rows in the top and bottom triangle there are at least two of the same color together. Try to do the same for columns in the right and left triangle. Also, try to have all eight of the center most blocks be the same color. Each blacked out box represents the corners of the round. The outer-most round has 22sc per side. The innermost round has 2sc per side. The four blacked out stitches in the center will be worked as a final stitch.

Work the following rounds according to the color indicated on your chart. Carry unused color by crocheting over it. The sc prior to a color change work like this: With old color on hook, go into stitch, YO with old color and draw loop through stitch. YO with new color and draw through both loops (Sc complete). Even if you aren't using a color on a round, still carry it under as the carried color peeks through a bit and, in my opinion, creates a consistent and pleasing effect. 8.Join MC or CC (look at lower right square after blacked out corner of your chart for color) with sc in second dc after corner. Begin carrying color which is not in use, leaving a long enough starting tail to weave in later. 21sc, (skip 2 stitches around corner, 22sc) three times changing colors as indicated in the next round of chart.
