Directions
\* Note: This hat begins with a provisional cast on. Alternately, the lining can be attached using a whipstitch. Work in stockinette stitch until leg measures 15cm (6") or desired length. Work stockinette stitch (k every round) for 20 rounds (4"/10 cm). Begin working chunky cable rib: Rnd 1: \*[K6, p1]; rep from \* to end of rnd. Rnd 2: Same as rnd 1. Rnd 3: \*[6-st LC, p1]; rep from \* to end of rnd. Rnd 4: Same as rnd 1. Rnd 5: Same as rnd 1. Rnd 6: Same as rnd 1. Rnd 7: Same as rnd 1. Rnd 8: Same as rnd 1. Work rnds 1-8 of chunky cable rib (2) times then work rnds 1-4 (1) time. Keep right side of work facing you. Fold stockinette portion of band to inside of hat. The wrong sides should be together and the provisional cast on edge should be lined up behind the live stitches on the needle. Carefully remove the scrap yarn from the provisional cast on to expose the stitches. It is helpful to take a few off at a time and put them on a spare needle. Starting at the beginning of the round, join the 2 layers of stitches by inserting the right handle needle into the first stitch in the cable layer and the corresponding stitch of the stockinette layer and working a knit 2 together. Continue in this manner for the rest of the round. Work stockinette (k every round) until hat measures 7" from bottom edge. Decrease section: Rnd 1: \*K4, k2tog ; rep from \* to end of rnd. Rnd 2: Knit. Rnd 3: \*K3, K2tog; rep from \* to end of rnd. Rnd 4: Knit. Rnd 5: \*K2, k2tog; rep from \* to end of rnd. Rnd 6: Knit. Rnd 7: \*K1, k2tog; rep from \* to end of rnd. Rnd 8: Knit Rnd 9: \*K2tog; rep from \* to end of rnd. Cut yarn leaving 6" tail. Use yarn needle to secure through remaining stitches and to inside of hat. Block lightly if needed.
