Centerdale Mitts
A Knitting pattern by Pam Sluter

Centerdale Mitts are a cozy warm accessory to keep your hands comfy during the in between days that are too chilly for bare hands and not quite cold enough for full gloves or mittens. The sample shown is knit in a blend of Colored Border Leicester/ Lincoln and Llama yarn from Maybe Tomorrow Farm in Chepachet, RI. The result is a lovely wooly yarn with a slight fuzz and so warm! Directions
Note: Both mitts are worked the same. Cable rib: Rnds 1,2,3,4 &6: \*K4, P3; rep from \* to end. Rnd 5: \* 4-st RC, p3; rep from \* to end. Cast on 35 stitches. Divide stitches 11, 10, 14 between three needles. This configuration aids in working the cable row. Join to begin working in the round, being careful not to twist. Work rounds 1-6 of cable rib pattern 4 times. (On second row, place a locking stitch marker to note beginning of round.) Next round: Increase for hand. Work K5, m1 across round. (42 sts) Work stockinette stitch (k every round) for 11 rounds. Divide for thumb: Knit to last 7 sts. Transfer these stitches to a stitch holder. Use backwards loop to cast 7 stitches onto left needle. Continue to work stockinette stitch until mitt measures 6 1/2 "/ 16.5 cm from cast on edge. Decrease round: Work K4, k2tog across round. (35 sts) Work rnds 1-6 of Cable rib once. Knit 1 round. Bind off. Thumb: Transfer 7 stitches on holder to needle. Attach yarn (this will be the beginning of the round so you should also place a marker) and using second needle pick up and knit 3 stitches along side and 3 stitches along top of opening. Using a third needle pick up and knit 4 stitches along top edge and 3 stitches on side of opening. (20 sts) Knit 4 rounds. Bind off. Weave in ends. Steam lightly to finish. Repeat for second mitt.
