By Janine Le Cras IEver been bitten by a vampire? Well they do say that they have the ability to hypnotise, so how would you know.... These socks have a few secrets of their own. A row of teeth (or are they fangs) ring the top of the cuff. Two neat fang holes decorate the outside of the ankle, just above the garter st short row heel. They are then finished off with a comfy short row garter st toe that is kitchenered together across the top of the toes.
Pattern:
Cast on 64 sts and arrange equally between 4 dpns . Join in a circle' being careful not to twist the sts and place a marker to show the beginning of the round. Knit 6 rounds. Work the picot row : \*K2tog, yo\*repeat to end of round Work in stockinette until the cuff measures 6 inches, or %2 “ less than your preferred cuff length.
Work the fang holes:
Knit 4 sts on $1^{\mathrm{{\bar{s}}t}}$ needles, cast off 2 sts , knit to end of round. On the next round cast on 2 sts to replace the 2 you cast off on the previous round. Work 4 rounds stockinette. Knit round until you have 6 sts left on needle 4. Cast off 2 sts. Work to end. On the next round cast on 2 sts to replace the 2 you cast off on the previous round.
Work short row Garter heel:
Slip the 32 sts from needles 1 & 2 onto one needle. These stitches are going to be the heel stitches. Place the rest of the stitches either on spare needles or stitch holders until they are needed. Continuing on these stitches 32 and working back and forth in garter st work a short row heel as follows. Knit across the stitches on the needle until there is one stitch on your needle, bring your yarn to the front of the work, Sl the next st from the left hand needle, take your yarn to the back of the work, Sl the st back to the left hand needle. Turn your work. knit to last st , bring your yarn to the front of the work, Sl the next st from the left hand needle, take your yarn to the back of the work, Sl the st back to the left hand needle. Turn your work. Continue shaping the heel by working one st less at each end of the needle until you have 12 un worked sts in the middle of your needle. All the stitches of the heel should still be on the needle. To increase back up, knit back and forth across the heel stitches, working one extra stitch on each row picking up and knitting the wraps as you come to them. Continue in this fashion until all the stitches have been reincorporated into the heel. Foot:
Redistribute the sts back onto 2 needles and commence knitting in the round as before. Knit the foot until it measures $z^{\ast}$ less than your required length.
Short row garter st toe:

Place the rest of the stitches either on spare needles or stitch holders until they are needed. Continuing on these stitches 32 and working back and forth in garter st work short row toe as follows. Knit across the stitches on the needle until there is one stitch on your needle, bring your yarn to the front of the work, Sl the next st from the left hand needle, take your yarn to the back of the work, Sl the st back to the left hand needle. Turn your work. knit to last st , bring your yarn to the front of the work, Sl the next st from the left hand needle, take your yarn to the back of the work, Sl the st back to the left hand needle. Turn your work. Continue shaping the heel by working one st less at each end of the needle until you have 14 un worked sts in the middle of your needle. A the stitches of the toe should still be on the needle. To increase back up, knit back and forth across the toe stitches, working one extra stitch on each row picking up and knitting the wraps as you come to them. Continue in this fashion until all the stitches have been reincorporated. Kitchener the sts of the toe and the instep together across the top of the sock. Block and sew in any ends. If you wish you can work a row of buttonhole stitch embroidery around the fang holes either in the same yarn or an accent yarn depending on how much you want them to show.
Second sock
Work as for the first except for the fang holes which should be worked as follws:
Knit to last 4 sts on $2^{\mathsf{n d}}$ needles, cast off 2 sts , knit to end of round. On the next round cast on 2 sts to replace the 2 you cast off on the previous round. Work 4 rounds stockinette. Knit round until you reach needle 3 work $1^{\mathrm{st}}\,4$ sts on needle 3. Cast off 2 sts. Work to end. On the next round cast on 2 sts to replace the 2 you cast off on the previous round. This will ensure that your fang holes are on the opposite side of the sock.
