The Blissful Metallic Scarf: A Detailed Guide to Creating a Unique Tunisian Crochet Masterpiece

Pattern illustration

The Blissful Metallic Scarf was a hit at the October 2015 Creativ Festival in Toronto. It features a novelty yarn (Bernat Blissful) with a smooth yarn (Patons Metallic) and is worked on a double-ended hook. Novelty yarn can be difficult to crochet with on its own. In this scarf, the novelty yarn is only used in the return pass as chain stitches. Finished size: 9 inches x 50 inches. Scarf is worked lengthwise. 11.5 mm double-ended hook Contrast: Paton's Metallic: 1 ball 95134 Blue Steel Novelty: Bernat Blissful: 1 ball 89003 Tapestry Gauge: 8 stitches and 8 rows = 4 inches. Tunisian crochet stitch used: TSS extended. This puts more distance between the return passes. With contrast colour, chain 92 stitches. Work foundation row in TSS extended (chain one above each Tss). To work off the stitches, turn hook and attach novelty yarn to make the return pass. The return pass chases the forward pass along the length of the scarf. At the end of the row you will have one stitch left on the hook in the novelty yarn. Turn the fabric and chain one with the contrast yarn. Working into the same colour, TSS extended across the row, turn and make return pass in novelty yarn. I usually work about 25 stitches in the forward pass before the hook gets too full, then turn and work these off, leaving three stitches on the hook. Work 18 rows or to desired width of scarf.
