FRONT:

This garment is not knit in the round, but a circular needle can be used. In Color A, Cast on (CO) 52 (60, 68) sts. Work in K1, P1 seed st. for 3 rows. Begin block pattern (patt): All blocks are worked in stockinette stitch (st) unless otherwise indicated and are 13 (15, 17) sts and 13 (15, 17) rows. The blocks with a design in them are graphed for you. The others should simply be worked in the color specified. Note: the embellishing of all blocks should be done after you have completed your sweater, assembled it and lightly blocked it (if needed). Block A: Work in Colors D and E. (see graph #1). Decorate with bead if desired. Block B: Work in Color C, in seed stitch. Block C: Work in Color E. Sew on two heart buttons. Block D: Work in Colors D and B. (See graph #2). Tie ribbonbow. Second row of blocks: Block E: Work in Color B. Sew on heart buttons in contrasting yarn. Block F: Work in Color D (see graph #3). Blocks G-H: Working Color A. Third row of blocks: Block I: Work in Color A. Sew on heart button with contrasting ribbon. Block J: Work in alternating Colors D & E. Sew on heart button with ribbon. Block K: Work in Color D in seed st. Decorate with beads. Block L: Work in Color C. Sew on heart button. Forth row of blocks: Block M: Work in Color C. Sew on heart button. Block N: Work in Color A. Decorate with beads. Block O: Work in Color E. Sew on 3 heart buttons. Block P: Work in Color B. Sew on heart button with ribbon. Fifth row of blocks: Block Q: Work in Color A. Sew on 2 heart buttons with contrasting yarn. Block R: Work in Color A. Sew on heart button with ribbon. Block S: Work in Colors D & B. (see graph #4). Decorate with bead. Block T: Work in Color C. Sew on heart button. Sixth row of blocks: Block U: Work in Color B. Sew on heart button with ribbon. Block V: Work in Color E. Block W: Work in Color A. Block X: Work in Color D. Sew on heart button with ribbon. While working in pattern, begin front neck shaping when front measures 11 (12.5, 14)".

FRONT NECK SHAPING:

Continue to work in patt, working both shoulders at the same time, placing center 20 (22, 24) sts on holder. Continue in patt decreasing 1 sts every row at each neck edge 3 times. Work remaining 13 (16, 19) sts until each front piece measures 13 (15, 17)" Bind off (BO) shoulders sts or place on st holder for the 3 needle BO method.

BACK:

In Color A, CO 52 (60, 68) sts and work seed st same as front. Work entire sweater back in Color A, until back measures 13 (15, 17)". B0 13 (16, 19) sts for each shoulder or place them on stitch holders for the 3 needle BO method. Place remaining neck 26 (31, 33) sts on holder. Join shoulder seams together.

SLEEVES:

Sleeve is knit from top down. It is not knit in the round but a circular needle can be used. In Color A, beginning 4.5 (5, 6)" from shoulder seam, mark back and front distance from shoulder before picking up sleeve sts. With right side facing you, beginning at one marker, pick up (PU) 48 (52, 62) sts dividing sts evenly between front and back markers. Do not join sleeve. Work back and forth on the needle in stockinette stitch until sleeve measures 1.75 (2.75, 3.75)". Work 3 rows of K1, P1 seed st for cuff. BO cuff sts.

NECK EDGING:

With RS of garment facing you, PU 72 (74, 80) sts around neck opening including those on st holder. Work 5 rnds in stockinette st. Let edging roll over.

FINISHING:

Sew sleeve and side seams together. Weave pink ribbon through sleeve and tie in bow. With Color D, single crochet around hem of sweater. Lightly block sweater. Embellish sweater with buttons and beads and ribbon as indicated, or get creative with your own imagination. Have fun! Graphs are shown in the smallest size.
