Baby-on-the-Go Blanket

Materials

Yarn: $\mathord{\sim}600$ yds cotton (sample knitted with Pisgah Peaches & Creme Rainbow) Needles: Circular US size 7 $(4.5\;\mathsf{m m})$ 1 tapestry or darning needle. Gauge: 4 sts/in in stockinette stitch on size 7, unblocked
Instructions
1) Using size 7 (4.5mm) needle, C0 114 sts loosely (this is important). 2) Knit even in garter stitch for 6 rows. For a neat selvedge, slip 1st stitch of each row with yarn in front as if to purl. Begin Old Shale stitch. Row 1: Knit 6, \*(K2 tog) 3 times, (YO, P1) 6 times, (K2 tog) 3 times\*. Repeat between \* \*, ending knit 6. Rows 2: Knit. Row 3: Knit 6, purl, ending knit 6. Row 4: Knit. Repeat 4 rows of Old Shale until blanket measures about 29" from beginning, then knit 6 rows garter stitch. Bind off loosely using knit 2 tog bind off as follows: K2, then stick left needle into fronts of 2 sts just knitted and K2 tog through back loop; K1, then stick left needle into fronts of 2 sts on R needle and K2 tog through back loop. Cont to BO sts in manner described until all sts have been bound off. Weave inends.
