Tension 8 rows to 1 inch. Starting at one end make a chain 26 inches long. To Make
Cast on 143 stitches. Photo opposite shows rib or French method. Work 1 row plain knitting $2^{\mathrm{nd}}$ row: Mosstitch throughout. Knit 1, purl 1 to end. $3^{\mathrm{rd}}$ row: repeat row 2. Continue in this way until work measures 15 inches long.
Press carefully if required. Join side seam. On the original pattern the top of the hat is left open for you to manipulate the hat to whatever is your chosen design. This is a simple pattern which allows you to create your own unique hats. Providing you can obtain the original sizing, try out a variety of pattern stitches. Change the size of your pins and knit with a modern yarn - imagine this in an éeyelash' pinned into shape with a huge sparkly brooch!
