Gwee Grows Up

Gwee started out as a miniature Gansey style sock, with the intention that one day Gwee would turn into an adult sock. One day eventually came and Gwee grew up into an adult sized sock. This design will show up well in a light coloured solidyarn.Enjoy! Materials: 100 gms of fingering weight sock yarn. Green is Regia with 420m/100 gms. Needles: 2.25mm( size 0 US) The pattern is written for dpns, but can just as easily be knit with 2 circulars or magic loop. Gauge: 9sts/in over patterning
Cuff
Cast on 72 stitches using a Channel Island cast on, excluding the slip knot start. Remember not to knit the slip knot. It can be dropped after a few rounds. Round 1: Knit Round 2: Purl Knit round 1 and 2 a total of 3 times.
Leg
one round decreasing 1 stitch for a total stitch count of 71 stitches. Following the chart (which starts at the centre back of the leg), knit a total of 6 repeats of the chart.
Heel Flap
Knit 18 stitches. Turn work and slip 1, purl across 32 stitches, then purl the next 2sts. together. You should have 34 stitches for your heel flap. Row 1: (right side) slip 1 as if to purl, k1 across. Turn. Row 2: (wrong side) slip 1 as if to purl, purl across. Turn. Repeat these 2 rows a total of 16 times for 32 rows. The heel flap should measure about 2 inches.
Heel Turn
Row 1: Knit 19, ssk, k1, Turn Row 2: S1 1, p5, p2tog, p1. Turn. Row 3: Sl 1, k6, ssk, k1. Turn. Row 4: Sl 1, p7, p2tog, p1. Turn. Repeat rows 3 and 4 increasing by 1 stitch each row , a stitch before the decrease gap until you have used up all the stitches. You should have 20 stitches remaining.
Gusset Decreases
Knit across 10 sts. You are now at the centre bottom of the heel and the beginning of the round. With another dpn knit the remaining 10 sts. of the heel turn and then pick up and knit 16 sts. along the heel flap edge. Work in pattern across the 36 stitches of the instep starting with row 1 of the chart. The instep pattern is now columns 19 to 54 inclusive on the chart. Pick up and knit 16 stitches along the other heel flap edge and then knit 10 more stitches. You should be back at the beginning of the round. The sole stitches are plain knits and the instep is patterned according to the chart. Round1: knit to the last 3 stitches. K2 tog, k1, knit across the instep stitches in pattern according to chart. K1, ssk, knit to end Round 2: Knit even around keeping instep in pattern. Repeat the last 2 rounds until you have 18 stitches on each of the sole needles. Total stitch count is now 72. Continue with foot until you are 2 inches short of the length of your foot. Finish with round 6 or round 12.
Toe
Round 1: Knit 15 stitches, then K2 tog,k1,k1,ssk,k30, k2tog,k1,k1,ssk, knit to the end of the round. Round 2: Knit even all the way around. Repeat these 2 rounds until there are 28 stitches left in total. Graft the instep and sole stitches together. Weave in ends.
