Shrug & Shell Bag for 18' Doll

Here's a miniature version of my Cream Shells Handbag, sized to fit any fashionable $18^{\circ}$ doll, plus a “fun fur’ shrug for those chilly days.

Materials:

For Handbag: 1 oz. any sport weight or baby yarn (model is crocheted in Phentex “Baby", Cream color) For Shrug: 2 oz. any eyelash yarn (model is crocheted in Phentex “Fashion Eight'", color Beige) Crochet hook size I (You may wish to use a hook a size or two smaller if you are a looser crocheter.) Yarn needle Small length of ribbon (model is shown with brown nylon 5/8" ribbon with white polka dots) 2 gold jump rings approximately 5/8" diameter

Abbreviations:

$\mathrm{Ch}=$ chain ${\bf S l}\;{\bf s t}=$ slip stitch $\mathbf{S}\mathbf{c}=$ single crochet $\mathrm{Dc}=$ double crochet Rnd $=$ round $\mathbf{Beg=}$ beginning $\mathrm{Sp}=$ space

Instructions:

NOTE: Work is not turned at end of each row. Ch 12. Rnd 1: 2 dc in $4^{\mathrm{th}}$ ch from hook, de in each ch across, working 5 de in last ch. Turn work and continue working along opposite side of ch, working dc in each ch. Work 2 dc in last ch and join with sl st to top of beg ch-3. Rnd 2: Ch 3, 3 dc in same st, skip 2 sts, $^*4$ dc in next st, skip 2 sts. Rep from \* around, join as for last rnd. Rnds 3 - 5: Sl st in next dc and into sp before next dc, ch 3, 3 dc; work 4 dc-shellin sp between the middle dcs of each shell around. Join as for rnd 2. Rnd 6: Ch 3, dc in each dc around; join. Do not fasten yarn. Make carrier straps: Rnd 1: Ch 3, 2 dc. Ch 3, turn (counts as first dc for next row). (3 dcs) Rnd 2: 2 dc. Fasten yarn. With right side of bag facing you, count ver 13 sts and attach yarn in next st. Work as for first strap. Slide ring onto each strap. Fold strap in half toward inside ofbag and sew end of strap to inside top edge of bag. Sc in $2^{\mathrm{nd}}$ chfrom hook and each chacro, working 3 sc in last ch. Tuwork. Along opposite side ofch, work sc in each ch, working 2 sc in last ch. SI st to top of beg sc; fasten yarn. Slide each end of strap through a carrier strap ring. Fold up $^{1\!}/\!\!\frac{,\!}{2}\!\!\!\phantom{\frac{.}{.}}^{\bullet\,\!}$ of strap toward inside and sew in place. Weave ribbon through spaces between shells on top row of bag; tie bow. Bag may be lined if desired.

Shrug

$\mathbf{V}=\mathbf{V}$ Stitch: (Dc, ch 1, dc) in same sp. Note: Idid not turn rnds when crocheting the sleeves, as the eyelash yarn obscures right and wrong sides. However, you may wish to turn rnds if using a sport weight or baby yarn. Instructions: With I hook, ch 20. Row 1: Dc in $4^{\mathrm{th}}$ ch from hook, dc, skip next ch, $\ast\mathrm{~V~}$ skip next h; ep frm \* ening withd iachft last 2 chs. Ch 3, turm (counts as $1^{\mathrm{st}}$ de of next row). Rows 2 -6: Dc, V in each V's ch-1 sp across row, ending with 2 dc. Ch 3, turn. Note: Do not ch 3 at end of row 6; join that narrow side of your work by working a sl st in the corresponding end st to form armhole. You will now be working rnds to form the sleeves. Sleeve Rnd 1: Ch 4, de in same sp $\mathrm{\Delta}^{1^{\mathrm{st}}\,\mathrm{V}}$ made); work 5 more V stitches evenly around armhole; join with sl st to $3^{\mathrm{rd}}$ ch of beg ch-4. ( $_6\,\mathrm{V}$ stitches). Repeat rnd 1 three times (4 rnds total) Shell rim: Ch I, sc in same sp,. $^*3$ dc in next V, sc in next V;rep from \* aroud, ending with sl st in $1^{\mathrm{st}}\,\mathrm{sc}$ Fasten yarn. Attach yarn in other end of rectangle and join with sl st in the corresponding end st to form other armhol. Work as for $1^{\mathrm{st}}$ sleeve.

Shrug Body Ruffle:

Attach ya at one uderam,ch4, dc in same sp; work $22\;\mathrm{{V}}$ stitches evenly around shrug body for a total of 23 $\mathrm{v}$ stitches. Join with s st to $3^{\mathrm{rd}}$ ch of beg ch-4.
