Here's a boby bib design that is simple to knit. The bumpy seed stitch pattern works great for wiping messy faces. Make a few, one never has enough!

Note: Yarn is doubled though out pattern
MATERIALS
100 yards of worsted weight cotton, or cotton blend. Example used 1 ball of Jeannee (worsted) from the Plymouth Yarn Company. RECOMMENDED NOTIONS: US #8/5mm needle Stitch holder Tapestry needle 5/8" button or larger GUAGE: 16 STS & 24 Rows $=4$ INCHES PATTERN ABBREVIATIONS co: cast on Rs: right side Ws: wrong side Bo: bind off: knit 2 sts, then with the two stitches on the right needle, pass the right stitch over the left stitch and off the needle. K: knit P: purl st(s): stitch(es) K2tog: knit 2 stitches together P2tog: purl 2 stitches togetherKif&b: knit into the front and back of the stitch Yo: lay yarn over needle front to back. (note: if the next stitch is to be purled, bring the working yarn to the front of the needles.) Sl: slip st (purlwise): insert right needle into the first st on left needle as if you were going to purl it, then slip it off the left needle onto the right without knitting it.
Seed Stitch:
row 1: \*(K1, P1). rep from row 2: k the p sts and p the k sts Bib: Co 23 sts. Row 1: (Rs) Seed st: \*(k1, p1), rep from\* to last st, k1. Row 2: (ws) K1f&b, p1 \*(k1, p1), rep from\* to last st, k1feb (25sts) Row 3: P1, \*(k1, p1), rep from\* to end Row 4: K1f8b, \*(k1, p1), rep from\* to last 2 sts, k1, k1f&b (27 sts). Repeat row 1 until you have 6 inches of fabric from the Co edge. Decrease edging: Row 1: P2tog, \*(k1, p1), rep from\* tolast 3 sts, k1, p2tog (25 sts). Row 2: p1 \*(k1, p1), rep from\* to end Row 3: K2tog, p1 \*(k1, p1), rep from\* until last 2 sts, k2tog (23 sts). Row 4: \*(k1, p1), rep from\* to last st, k1.
Shape Neck:
Con't in seed st, work across next 9 sts, place on a holder to be used later for the neck strap, Bo next 5 sts, work last 9 sts and leave on needle for the button band.
Button band:
Row 1: p2tog, \*(k1, p1), rep from\* to last st, k1 (8sts). Row 2: p2tog, \*(k1, p1), rep from\* to end (7sts). Rows 3 & 4: p1, \*(k1, p1), rep from\* to end Row 5: k2tog, p1, k1, p1, k2tog (5 sts) Row 6: p2tog. k1, p2tog (3 sts) Row 7: sl1, k2tog. psso. Slip yarn through last st and pull tight. Weave in end.
strap:
Return 9 held sts to needle. Join $y^{\prime}\square\Gamma\Gamma$ at neck edge. Row 1: p2tog, \*(k1, p1), rep from\* to last st, k1 (8sts). Row 2: p2tog. \*(k1, p1), rep from\* to end (7sts). Row 3: p1, \*(k1, pl), rep from\* to end Repeat row 3 until strap measures $\Xi^{\prime,}$ from joining. (Button hole) Row 1: p1, k1, p1, k1, Bo 1 st, kl, p1. (BO st should be in the center of row). Row 2: pl, kl, p1, yo, pl, kl, p1 (7 sts). Rows 3 & 4: p1, \*(k1, p1), rep from\* to end Row 5: k2tog, p1, k1, p1, k2tog (5 sts) Row 6: p2tog, k1, p2tog (3 sts) Row 7: sl1, k2tog, psso. Slip yarn through last st and pull tight. Weave in end. Finishing: Weave in ends. Sew button to band.
