Abbreviations:
K-Knit P-Purl K2tog - Knit 2 stitches together P2tog-Purl2 stitches together SSK - Slip 2 stitches knit wise from left needle to right needle. Using left needle, insert through the front of the 2 stitches on right needle and knit together (1 stitch decreased) Sl 1 - Slip 1 stitch YO - Yarn over Using either 2.5mm needles for 8" size, or 2.75mm needles for 9" size sock, cast on 64 stitches. I recommend using an elastic cast on method to ensure that the cuff fits comfortably and not tightly - this is especially important with a picot cuff - there isn't a lot of give once the cuff is sewn down. Divide stitches evenly between 4 double pointed needles, 16 stitches per needle; place marker (if using), and join for working in the round - be careful not to twist your stitches.
Cuff:
Work picot edge as follows: Rounds 1-5:Knit all stitches Round 6: [K2tog, YO] to end Rounds 7-11:Knit allstitches

Leg:
Change to either 2.25mm needles (8") or 2.5mm needles (9"). Work 18 rounds of Spot Stitch' pattern for respective sock as follows: Left Sock: Row 1: Knit all stitches Row 2: Knit all stitches Row 3: [YO, K2tog, K2] to end Row 4: Knit all stitches Row 5: Knit all stitches Row 6: [K2, Y0, K2tog] to end Right Sock: Row 1: Knit all stitches Row 2: Knit all stitches Row 3: [K2, Y0, K2tog] to end Row 4: Knit all stitches Row 5: Knit all stitches Row 6: [YO, K2tog, K2] to end Divide for heel flap as follows:
Heel Flap:
Knit 16 stitches on N1, turn, then commence ‘Eye of the Partridge’ heel pattern, to include the stitches on N4 (when you work first row of pattern) to make 32 heel stitches, placing them on one needle as you go. Work 24 rows, back and forth across the heel stitches (6 repeats of pattern).
Eye of the Partridge Pattern'
Row 1: Sl 1, Purl to end. Row 2: [Sl 1, K1] to end. Row 3: Sl 1, Purl to end. Row 4: Sl 1, K2, [Sl 1, K1] to last stitch, K1.

Turn Heel:
Row 1: (WS) Sl 1, P18, P2tog, P1, turn. Row 2: (RS) Sl 1, K7, K2tog, Kl, turn. Row 3: Sl 1, purl to the 1s stitch before the gap made by the last row, P2tog, P1, turn. Row 4: Sl 1, knit to the 1" stitch before the gap made by the last row, K2tog, K1, turn. Repeat rows 3 & 4 until all the stitches have been worked - 20 stitches remain - you should be right side facing now ready to commence gusset.
Gusset:
Rearrange the 20 heel flap stitches on to 2 needles (10 stitches on each); with N1 pick up 14 stitches along the side of the heel flap, pattern across the 32 stitches held on N2 & N3 (commencing with Row 1 of pattern), using another needle - N4, pick up 14 stitches along the other side of the heel flap, and finally, knit remaining 10 stitches to the beginning of the round (heel centre). You should now have a total of 80 stitches, 24 stitches on N1, 16 stitches on N2, 16 stitches onN3 and24stitches onN4. Round 1: (Decrease round) N1 - knit to the last 2 stitches, K2tog; pattern across the stitches on N2 & N3; N4 - SSK, knit to end. Round 2: (Even round) - knit all stitches on N1 & N4, pattern stitches on N2 & N3. Repeat rounds 1 & 2 until 64 stitches remain - there should now be 16 stitches on eachneedle.
Foot:
Continue working even rounds (no more decreases) until your sock measures 6 cm (2 /") less than your desired total foot length - finishing with either row 3 or row 6 of pattern.
Toe:
Round 1: (Even) - knit all stitches. Round 2: (Decrease) - knit to the last 3 stitches on N1, K2tog, K1; N2, K1, SSK, knit to end; N3, knit to the last 3 stitches, K2tog, K1; N4, K1, SSK, knit to end. Repeat rounds 1 & 2 until there are 28 stitches remaining; continue working Round 2 only until 16 stitches remain- 4 stitches on each needle. Rearrange stitches so that there are 8 stitches on 2 needles ready for grafting as follows: Knit 12 stitches (finishing at the end of N3) - rearrange stitches so that the first 4 and last 4 stitches of the round (N1 & N4) are on one needle - with the remaining 8 stitches (N2& N3) on another needle. You are now ready to graft the toe using Kitchener Stitch.
Finishing:
Cut yarn, leaving at least a 30.5 cm tail (12") to enable you to graft the toe; weave in looseends. To finish the cuff, fold over the cuff edge along the eyelet round to create the picot edge. Stitch down the edge, using whipstitch, to the first round of cuff. Weave in ends.
