Materials:

10g double knit yarn (8ply) - YARN A 10g double knit yarn (8ply) - YARN B Pattern will work in other yarns though gauge will be different. Crochet hook: 4 mm (US size G) You will also need: 1 x Small button / toggle button Needleand thread

Gauge:

Finished mug hug measures - 29 cm / 11.2 inches long 4 stitches = 2.5 cm / 1 inch CHECK YOUR GAUGE, use any size hook to obtain gauge.

Abbreviations:

st(s) = stitch(es) sl st = slip stitch ch = chain dc/sc = UK double crochet / US single crochet tr/dc = UK treble / US double crochet

Stitch Guidance:

Slip Stitch (sl st): Insert hook in st indicated, yarn over and draw through all loops. Single Crochet (dc/sc): Insert hook in st indicated and draw up a loop (two loops on hook), yarn over, draw through both loops on hook. Treble / Double Crochet (tr/dc): Yarn over, insert hook in next st and draw up a loop (three loops on hook), yarn over, draw through two loops, yarn over, draw through remaining two loops on hook.

Pattern Guidance:

How to surface crochet:

Start by attaching a slip knot to the back of the crochet area then from the front of the work, insert your hook into the stitch nearby and start working chain stitches on the surface of your crocheted area, continue to work in this way according to the design.

How to slip stitch edges together:

With the wrong sides facing against each other align the pieces stitch to stitch, insert your hook under both loops of st indicated in both pieces, yarn over and draw through all loops. This is the first slip stitch. Continue to slip stitch along the rest of the seam.

Pattern:

Rnd 1: With YARN A, ch 3, sl st to join to make a ring. Ch 1 (counts as first dc/sc) work another 5 dc/ sc into ring, join with sl st to beginning ch to join (6 sts). Rnd 2: Ch 1 (counts as first dc/sc), 1 dc/sc into same st, 2 dc/sc into next st and in each st around until end, sl st to beginning ch to join, fasten off and weave in ends (12 sts).

Rnd 3: Attach YARN B to any st, ch 2, 1 tr/dc in same st, ch 1, 2 tr/dc into same st, \* 1 tr/dc in next 2 sts, 2 tr/ dc, 1 ch, 2tr/dc in next \* repeat from \* to \* to end, sl st to beginning ch to join, fasten off and weave in ends (20 sts & 4 ch sps). Rnd 4: Surface stitch withYARN A around the outer edge of the centre circle created with YARN A Repeat rows from 1 to 4 three more times until you have 4 squares in total.

Joining together:

With YARN B hold squares right sides facing outwards and sl st two edges together. Repeat to join all squares in a long row, leave the final two edges un-joined.Finish off and weave in ends Rnd 5: Attach YARN A to the top right hand corner ch sp of the un-joined edge. Ch 3, 2 tr/dc, 2 ch, 3 tr/dc in same sp, miss next st \*1 tr/dc in next 5 sts, 1 tr/dc in ch sp, 1 tr/dc in sl st seam, 1 tr/dc in next ch sp \* repeat from \* to \* to end with 3 tr/dc, 1 ch, 3tr/dc in each corner. Sl st to first st to join finish off and weave in ends.

Adding button loop:

Reattach YARN A to left hand seam 4 sts from the top corner, ch 5, miss next 2 sts, sl st to next st, turn, work 8 dc/sc on ch, sl st to first ch to join. Finish off and weaveinends.

Position button on right hand side opposite button loop, sewonbutton withYARN A.
