Pride Hat
Inspired by Mason Dixon Knitting's Big Dotty cushion (and, apparently, my inner lesbian), this hat can be made in a variety of color combinations. I like having a variegated yarn behind a solid.

SIZE: Adult FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: Circumference: 20 inches Height: 8.5 inches Blocking is required for this pattern in order to get the proper effect. Size can be adjusted with blocking to fit head sizes 19-23 inches.
MATERIALS:
Crystal Palace Yarns Mochi Plus [80% merino wool 20% nylon; 95yds/87m per 50g ball]; 1 ball in color A (1503, purple rain) and 1 ball in color B (551, intense rainbow) 1 16-inch US #8/5mm circular needle, or size needed to obtain gauge 1 16-inch US #10/6mm circular needle, or size needed to obtain gauge NOTIONS REQUIRED: 1 stitch marker Darning needle
GAUGE:
20 st and 24 rows = 4 inches in pattern
DIRECTIONS:
With Color A, and size 8 needles, CO 84, PM and join to work in the round. Work in K1, P1 ribbing for 1" Next round: [\*K1, P1\*3 times, kfb, \*P1, K1\* 3 times, pfb] repeat to marker. Change to size 10 needles. Begin working pattern: In color A: Round 1: Knit Round 2: Purl Change to Color B Rounds 3-6: \*K4, slip 2\* to end Change to Color A Round 7: Knit Round 8: Purl Change to Color B Rounds 9-12: K1, \*slip 2, K4\* to last 3 stitches, K3 Repeat Rounds 1-12 three times more, then rounds 1 and 2 once more. Change to Color B Begin decreasing: Round 1: \*K1, K2tog, K1, slip 2\* to marker (80 st) Round 2: \*K3, slip 2\* to marker Round 3: Repeat round 2 (continued on page 2)

Round 14: \*K2tog\* to end (8) Break yarn, leaving a 12 inch tail. Run yarn through remaining 8 stitches, cinch tightly and secure on ws. Weave in ends and block. Change to Color A Round 4: \*K3, K2tog\* to marker (64) Round 5: Purl Change to Color B Round 6: K1, slip 1, \*K3, slip 1\* to last 2 st, K2 Round 7: K1, slip1, \*K2tog, K1, slip 1\* to last 2 st, K2tog (48) Round 8: K1, \*slip 1, K2\* to last 2 st, slip 1, K1 Change to Color A Round 9: Knit Round 10: \*P1, P2tog\* to end (32) Change to Color B Round 11: Knit Round 12: \*K2tog\* to end (16) Round 13: Knit Change to Color A
BLOCKING:
Submerge hat in cold water and let soak for several minutes. Remove from water and squeeze without wringing. Roll in towel to remove any excess moisture. Lay on blocking mat and pin to measurements. Let hat dry completely before removing and wearing.
