... (recommended needles!...
Needles in either the largest size recommended on the yarn label or 1-2 sizes larger to achieve a lacy effect ...(notions}... tapestry needle ..Igauge}... Gauge is not crucial to this project, but for reference, the sample gauge is: 16 sts/20 rows over 4" in lace pattern
Abbreviations:
yo:yarn over k2tog: knit two stitches together ssk: slip two stitches to the right hand needle then knit insert the left needle from front to back and knit two together Note: It's rather tricky to fix mistakes in this type of stitch pattern, so don't get too willy-nilly with those yarn overs.
Instructions:
Using the long-tail cast on, cast on a number divisible by 4. The sample shown is 32 stitches. Row 1: \*k2tog, yo twice, ssk\* Row 2: \*p1, purl into the front of the first yo, purl into the back of the second yo, p1\* Repeat these two rows until you have a scarf of your desired length, or until you have about a yard of yarn left, ending after a Row 2. Bind off loosely knitwise using your favorite method. For this particular scarf I like Elizabeth Zimmerman's sewn bind off, but use what you like. Weave in ends and steam or wet block, stretching lace horizontally to open it up. Read more about Emily and her knitting and sewing adventures at www.cosmosandcashmere.blogspot.com.
