Begin torso incs as follow: 1: \*sm, kto "c", m1Rt, sm, kto next "c", sm, m1l, kto next marker. rep. from \* onc R2: k 1 R. Rep. above 2 R 8 (8,10) times more. Then rep once more, dropping all "c" markers. 148(162,182) sts on needles. 6. Measure length of piece. If at least 15 to 15.5", you are ready to begin underarm. If not, work even in St st till correct length. 7. Underarm: work to 5 sts before marker , BO 5 sts, drop marker , B0 5 more sts, rep from \* once. You now have 2 sets of 64 (71, 81) live sts, separated by underarms. 8. Place one set of live sts on holder/scrap yarn. This will be the front. 9. Back yoke: make 1 dec at each underarm edge, 2 sts in from edge, as follows: On rs, k2, ssk, k to 4 sts before end, k2 tog, k2. On ws, p 2, p 2 tog, p to 4 sts before end, ssp , p2. Work this dec on every R for a total of 11 (13, 17) Rs. Work 5 R garter stitch. Work should measure about 2 % to 3" from bottom of underarm. End by working a wsr. 10. Next R (rs): continuing in garter, k 5, B0 42 (49,59) sts, k5, place last 5 sts on holder, place first 5 sts on holder. Break yarn, leaving a 20" tail. These 2 sets of 5 live sts will be grafted to shoulder straps Iater. 11. Front yoke: rep step 9 above. Then (on a rsr), working in garter, work 5 sts, place them on a holder, BO 42 (49,59) sts, work 5 sts. Turn, work these last 5 sts in garter for about 9". Without breaking yarn, try on, check if strap is long enough to break yarn. If not, continue working that strap. Break yarn, leaving a 15" tail. Place sts on holder. Make an identical strap using the other 5 live sts of the front yoke. Try on, adjust straps, and graft the straps to live sts from back yoke. 12. Weave in ends. Block, using blocking wires to straighten the hem and keep it from rolling. Webby Edging: With mohair yarn and size 4 needle (or any size you like),CO 8 sts and follow chart #1.Work till long enough to circle hips with a bit of ease. Make sure to end edging at last R of chart, so that you don't get 2 short wedges right next to each other at the seam. Sew strip into circle (or if you prefer, use a provisional CO and later graft the seam). The seam will coincide with a "side seam" of the cami. Spider Web: Using mohair yarn and #2 or #3 needles, loosely C0 135 sts, leaving a 20" tail. Join in the round, taking care not to twist sts. Follow chart 2, working from the outside in. Break yarn, leaving a 30" tail. Gather live sts, but do not weave in ends. Spider: CO 8 with waste yarn, leaving a 15" tail. Work 2 or 3 Rs. Work in main yarn in St st for 8.5 cm/3- 3/8". Do not BO, but break yarn, leaving a 15" tail. work 2-3 r. waste yarn, BO waste yarn. Using yarn tail, at each end , gather all the live sts (like the center of a knitted beanie), undo waste yarn, pull yarn tail to gather the sts so that the rectangle resembles a "canoe" . Using one yarn tail, on ws, invisibly baste down 1/3 of the way, wrap the yarn around the "canoe" twice to cinch the "waist'". Break yarn, leaving a 15" tail, then secure yarn but do not weave in. You should now have a spider "body" made up of 2 "canoes", one short, one long. Spider legs: crochet 4 chains ( or use a finer gauge yarn and a 3- stitch i-cord) in the following lengths, leaving some yarn tail on both ends for attaching each leg to the garment: a. 15cm/ 5.9" b.14cm/ 5.5" c.12cm/ 4.7" d.13cm/ 5.12". The legs will be centered under the "waist". See diagram. Mark each leg by tying small pieces of scrap yarn to both leg ends. Each leg will carry a different color (for example, leg "a" will have a red scrap at each end, leg "b" a blue scrap at each end, etc.). Record here the color you choose for each leg: Leg b: Leg c: leg d: \*\* It may be easier to tightlytie all4 legs tog in the center with a piece of scrap yarn (like you would tie a pompom) to create a "star" shape with 8 points, but be careful to remember (or to mark) which legs are which, as they are all different lengths Attach spider: Determine location of spider, then first stitch the legs onto the garment. Stuff the spider body parts with same-color yarn/ fabric scraps, and using the yarn tails from the spider, sew spider onto the garment over the legs. Use the remaining yarn tails to embroider spinnerets and palps. If you run out of yarn, use fresh yarn. Weave in tails on ws of garment, underneath spider, to avoid dark yarn showing on rs of garment. Attach Web: Determine location . Baste. Stitch to garment using yarn tails. You may wish to attach at several points in the center of web so that it doesn't bag or sag. If you have a yarn tail that is long enough, you may use it to embroider the "filament" that runs to the spinnerets. If not, use a new piece. Weave inends. Attach Edging: Baste to the bottom of the garment, adjusting ease. sew invisibly with the mohair yarn.Weave in ends.
