Even Big Guys Love SpideySocks
This is sock pattern was adapted from We Call Him Spidey Mittens by Kathleen Taylor. The trick was to take a pattern for toddler size mittens and turn them into large men's socks. The sock is knitted from the toe up and created with short-row toes and heels. This pattern is well suited for the “Magic Loop" method, however can be easily adapted to 5 double-point needles. If double-point needles are used, consider needles 1 & 2 as the front and needles 3 & 4 as back.

Materials
2 skeins Knit Picks Stroll, Firecracker Heather 2 skeins Knit Picks Stroll, Black 1 skein Knit Picks Stroll, Sapphire Heather 1 size 2 needle with 40" cable or 5 size 2 dpns
Size
Men's Wide (These are made for my son's wide size 13 foot) Length is determined by the number of “web strands" knitted. If knitting for a narrower foot, go down in needle size.
Cast On
Using the blue yarn, cast on 44 stitches using either a provisional cast-on or long-tail method (my preference) and create short-row toe. The pattern, Wendy's Generic ToeUp Sock has excellent directions for creating a short-row toe using a provisional caston. If a provisional cast on is not used, 44 stitches will need to be picked up from the "front" of the sock, so that there are 88 stitches total. Knit 2 rounds of blue. Foot
Starting at the bottom of chart for the Front of sock, switch yarns to black and red. To avoid an internal "web", twist together the two strands of yarn on longer single color stretches, especially near a needle change. Continue until foot is desired length ending with a completed “web strand". Finish with knitting 2 stitches (1 black, 1 red) on front of sock. You will need the yarn here when heel is complete.
Heel
Switch to blue yarn and work a short-row heel. Again, Wendy's Generic Toe-Up Sock has excellent directions for creating a short row heel. Cut blue and weave in both ends to provide stability.
Instep and Leg
Using Black and Red yarn that was left at the front of the sock, begin Spider motif. Continue with "web strands" on back of sock. The first row for both front and back will red with only black “verticals" and no "web strand" stitches. Hint: To avoid holes at ankle joints, for several rows when switching between front and back, pick up a stitch and M1 thenK2. When Spider motif is complete, continue with “web strands" on front and back until leg is desired length.
Cuff
Switch to Blue. K1, P1 for 6 rows. Bind off in pattern.
