Paopu Fruit Barrette

Crochet Hook: [US-G] Yarn: Lion Brand Vanna's Choice, worsted weight: 4 NOTE: each chain that we make has a hump on its back (see picture at right), and two loops on its front; 'SLST into back of CH1' means into its back hump (this is a challenge when there is only 1 chain, but it's doable).

RND 1: Magic Circle=MC, CH2 (does NOT count as ST) HDC 15 times into MC, SLST into 1st HDC to join; pull MC tight and weave in end [15 HDC]. RND 2: CH1 (counts as a loose SLST), \*[1HDC, 1DC, 1TRC, CH1, then SLST into back of CH1] all into next ST, [1TRC, 1DC, 1HDC all into next ST] loose SLST into next ST\*; repeat from \*to\* around, using last SLST to join into CH1 at beginning of round. Fasten off and weave in ends.
LEAF
CH8 (leave a long tail to attach leaf to Paopu fruit, later) Side 1: working into back loops only of chain, 2HDC in 3rd ST from hook (skipped STs count as 1st HDC), 1HDC into each of next 2 STs, 1SC into each of next 2 STs, SLST into last ST, CH1, then SLST into back of CH1 (leaf point made). Side 2: working up the other side of the beginning chain into front loops only, SLST into 1st ST, 1SC into each of next 2 STs, HDC into each of next 2 STs, 3HDC into last ST, join with SLST to top of beginning skipped CH. Fasten off and weave in ends. With a tapestry needle, ATTACH leaf to Paopu fruit;

attach barrette to back of Paopu fruit using a hot glue gun.
