As You Wish

During the planning process of this contest, my husband jokingly asked that one sock pattern be named for him. His name is Wesley and I'm more than happy to name a pair of socks after him, but wasn't sure how the ladies of the contest would feel about wearing a pair of socks named for a man. But, we both love the movie, The Princess Bride, and since the hero is also Wesley, 1 decided to name these socks, As You Wish, since it is a favorite quote from the movie and, indirectly, names the socks for my "Sweet Wesley". Gauge

8 stitches / inch in stockinette stitch

Supplies

Set of four dpn's - US 1 - 2.25mm or size needed for gauge 100 grams Fingering Weight yarn - approx. 400 yds Darning needle

Special Notes

Wrap & Turn (w&t)-

Knit row - knit up until stitch to be wrapped, pass yarn to the front of the work, slip stitch as if to purl, pass yarn to the back of the work and turn. Purl row - purl up until the stitch to be wrapped, pass yarn to the back of the work, slip stitch as if to purl, pass yarn to the front of the work and turn.

Picking up wraps

When a wrapped stitch is reached, slip the right hand needle under the wrap and knit together with the wrapped stitch.

Toe

Cast on 14 stitches using the Figure 8 or toe up cast on of your choice. Round 1 - K all sts, dividing sts between 3 dpn's (7,4,3) Rounds 2- 5 - Needle One - K1, m1, K across to last st, m1, K1 - Needle Two - K1, m1, K across - Needle Three - K across to last st, m1, K1 After the last four rounds, there will be 30 sts (15,8,7)

Round 6 - K all sts

Round 7- Needle One - K1, m1, K across to last st, m1, K1 - Needle Two - K1, m1, K across - Needle Three - K across to last st, m1, K1 Repeat Round 6 & 7 nine times more until there are 70 sts (35,18,17)

Foot

Round 1 (Set up round) - Needle One - p1, (K3, p2) to last four sts, K3, p1 - Needles Two & Three - K all sts Round 2 - Begin pattern repeats - Needle One - p1, (K3, p2) to last four sts, K3, p1 - Needles Two & Three -K all sts

Note: Because of the slip stitches, the instep will measure slightly less than the sole.

Gusset

Heel - Begin working in rows

Row 1 - Needle One - Work in pattern as established - Needles Two & Three - K40, Kf&b, K1,w&t Row 3 -s1, K22, Kf&b, K1, w&t At the end of Row 10 there will be 104 stitches (35,35,34) Row 11 - K across to end of Needle Three, picking up & knitting wraps along the way, do not turn Row 12 - Needle One - Work in pattern as established - Needles Two & Three - K51, ssk, turn Next Row - s1 (K1, s1) 16 times, K2, m1, then slip the last two stitches back onto left needle and knit them together through the back leg.

Cuff

Work 12 rows - p1, (K1, p1, K1, p2) repeat to last four sts, (K1, p1) twice. Bind off loosely in pattern & weave ends. Jeny's Surprisingly Stretchy Bind off was used for sample sock.
