Difficulty Rating - Advanced Beginner Supplies - Deborah Norville's Everyday Soft worsted in Oak Moss: 2 Skeins (400 yds) US 5.0mm or "H" hook Tapestry needle for weaving in ends Stitch Markers (or scrap yarn) Scissors Stitches Used - Slip Stitch (SS) Chain (CH) Single Crochet (SC) Double Crochet(DC) Half Double Crochet (hDC) Reverse Single crochet or "crab stitch" (rSC) Guage - 4"x 4" = 12 SC with a 5.0 mm "H" crochet hook The Scarf Pattern: This Scarf Can be made in any length or any width by extending the chain by 2's and by simply adding 2 rows at a time for an even finish. 1. Chain 47. Place one single crochet in the second chain from the hook(will be first DC after this round). Turning chain does not count as a stitch here or anywhere in the pattern. DC in the next chain (stitch will be a SC after this round). SC in the next chain, then DC in the next. Repeat this to the end of the row, ending with a SC in the final chain. CH 1 and turn. 2. Double crochet in SC, then SC in DC. Repeat this across to the end. DC in the last SC. Ch1 and turn. 3. Continue repeating rows 1 & 2 until scarf is desired length. You must stop at the end of round 2 for the end to be even. Do not finish off. Instead, begin rsC across stitches of the last row. Then finish off and weave in the end. 4. Attach yarn at the upper left corner of opposite end of scarf with front facing you. CH 1 and rsC across to end. Then finish off and weave in the end. The Pockets Pattern (make 2) 1. Chain 26. Half-double crochet in second chain from hook and across the row to the end. CH 1 and turn. (25 hDC) 2. Half-double crochet in first stitch and across the row. CH 1 and turn 3.Repeat row 2 thirteen more times. 4. Slip stitch across the row with even tension. Be careful not to bunch the piece. Finish off leaving a LONG tail. Use this tail to sew the pocket in the center of the bottom of the scarf. Weave in all remaining ends. (The sides of the scarf are left rough so they do not create a perfect line as long straight lines can seem unnatural when out in a wooded area) (I do not recommend using white or blue when out in the forest trying not to be seen. These are distress colors to animals and will draw attention to the wearer. Just some good friendly advice Come back soon for more patterns. I will be adding them often.
