Turning Stone has an eye-pleasing textured circle pattern that shows off well with both variegated and semi-solid yarns. It is easily worn as a long skinny loop around your neck as an accessory or looped twice around to keep the chill away. It is also easily modified to create a longer and/or wider cowl.

Abbreviations
k - knit ktbl - knit through the back loop p-wise - purl wise rnd - round sl 1 p-wise k2 psso - slip 1 purlwise knit 2 then pass slipped stitch over the k2 st(s) - stitch(es) YO - yarn over Twisted Rib Row 1: \*ktbl, purl. Repeat from \* across. Repeat this row for pattern.
Directions
Loosely cast on 300 stitches, place stitch marker and join in the round, making sure not to twist your stitches. Knit in twisted rib for 5 rows. Knit the following 4 row pattern for 3 inches (not including the twisted rib) ending in either row 1 or 3. Row 1: \*sl 1 p-wise k2 psso, k3\*, repeat between \* across rnd. Row 2: k1, \*yo, k5\*, repeat between \* across round to 4 sts from end, yo, k4. Row 3: \*k3, sl 1 p-wise k2 psso\*, repeat between \* across rnd. Row 4: k4, \* yo, k5\*, repeat between \* across round to 1 st from end, yo, k1. sted rib for 4 rows. Bind off loosely while continuing in twisted rib patterl Please note when doing the 4 rows of twisted rib: your stitch count willbe less than at cast on, since you are ending with row 1 or 3. The ribing will be looser on the bind off edge and this will help keep it in check. Both sides will block out evenly.
Blocking
Soak in cold water for 15-20 minutes. Remove from water, gently squeezing out excess water (avoid wringing as this can distort sts and cause felting). Lay piece out flat, pin edges straight if desired. To show off pattern, make sure to block firmly. Allow to dry completely before removing pins to maintain blocked shape.
Pattern Modifications
You can easily add repeats of the 4 row pattern if you would like a taller cowl or add on multiples of 6 stitches if you would like a longer cowl.
