Yarn which I used Katia Totem 100 metre = 100 gr 100% Acrylic Gauge 10cm x 10cm = 13 stitches x 14 rows Materials needed - ca. 150 gr Yarn - 8mm circular or regular needles (or whichever needle size as required by yarn weight) - darning needle - scissors - stitch or row markers, if required - cable needle or stitch holder Abbreviations R =row St/s = stitch/es K = knit P = purl RS = right side WS = wrong side K2tog = knit two stitches together M1 = make a stitch RP = repeat C8F = cable eight front (place first four sts on cable needle and hold at front, knit next four sts, then knit the four on the cable needle) C8B = cable eight back (place first four sts on cable needle and hold at back, knit next four sts, then knit the four on the cableneedle)
Pattern
- cast on 42 stitches with your 8mm circular needle - Slip first stitch and knit every last stitch as per pattern on each row Row 1 (WS) purl all stitches Row 2 (RS) knit all stitches Row 3 (WS) purl all stitches Row 4 slip 1 St, C8F, K8, C8F, K8, C8F, K1 Row 5 purl all stitches Row 6 knit all stitches Row 7 purl all stitches Row 8 slip 1 St, K8, C8B, K8, C8B, K9 - repeat pattern (rows 1 - 8) approx. 12 times, eg another 11 times and end with a final row of purl all stitches. With the yarn I used this is 97 rows and approximately 60cms long.

Finish
Do not cast off the last row and leave a long piece of yarn, I left about 5x the width of the scarf for sewing up the two pieces. Use darning needle and mattress stitches to join to casting row which results in an invisible join. Place the two ends together horizontally and work from right to left. You may, of course, also cast off the piece and then join with a mattress stich. There are various videos on youtube to show how to do a mattress stitch, for example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rpCk7M3QOL8 (German version) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3 WKmas VmSB0 (Engish version) Weave in all ends and FINISHED!!! I haven't written a pattern before, so I'm very aware this may have multiple flaws, if you do come across any please let me know and I will adjust the pattern accordingly. But in the meantime hopefully it'll be a bit of a guide, even if it's only the pictures, for someone. OJessica
