Directions:
Brim and Body
Cast on 96 stitches in main color. Join into the round, being careful not to twist. Place marker at the beginning of the round. Work 8 rounds of 2x2 rib (\*K2, P2, repeat from \*) in main color. Work 3 rounds of stockinette in main color. Work the 11 rounds of Pattern Chart A, repeating the pattern 12 times on each round, around the body of the hat. Make sure to keep your floats loose, so that the hat will be stretchy enough to fit over your head.

Work 1 round of stockinette in main color. Work the 6 rounds of Pattern Chart B twice, repeating the pattern 12 times on each round, around the body of the hat. The rest of the hat will be worked with only the main color.

Decrease the Crown
The crown is decreased in a squarish-shape, by grouping the decreasing in 4 pairs instead of evenly spacing them around the hat. The directions have you place your markers between each pair of decreases - K2Tog when you get to two stitches before the marker and SSK the two stitches after each marker. Switch to DPNs or two circular needles when necessary. Round 1: SSK, knit 20, K2Tog, place marker, SSK, knit 20, K2Tog, place marker, SSK, knit 20, K2Tog, place marker, SSK, knit 20, K2Tog Rounds 2, 4, 6, 8, 10: Work in stockinette stitch Rounds 3, 5, 7, 9: SSK, knit to 2 stitches before the marker, K2Tog, SSK, knit to 2 stitches before the marker, K2Tog, SSK, knit to 2 stitches before the marker, K2Tog, SSK, knit to 2 stitches before the marker, K2Tog Rounds 11-15: SSK, knit to 2 stitches before the marker, K2Tog, SSK, knit to 2 stitches before the marker, K2Tog, SSK, knit to 2 stitches before the marker, K2Tog, SSK, knit to 2 stitches before the marker, K2Tog Round 16: \*SSK, K2Tog, repeat from \* After Row 16, you should have 8 stitches left on your needles. Break yarn, leaving a 12 inch tail. Thread the tail through the remaining stitches and tighten. Weave in ends and block.
