Yael's baby sweater Designed by Naama Zahavi-Ely, August 17, 2009 This is a wrap sweater for a baby age 9-12 months. Gauge: 19 stitches and 24 rows per $4^{\prime\prime}$ in stockinette. Yarn: I used fingering held double - you can use dk weight. I used cashmere yarn from Colourmart.com. General notes: The sweater is knit from the top down on a long circular needle. It is knit in one piece - no sewing. It has both straight and diagonal stockinette knitting, with borders and shoulder /sleeve straps in seed stitch and a shaped hemline. Notions: 5 markers type A, 5 markers type B, 2 markers type C. Ties or buttons as desired.

Slip the first stitch on every row. Knit 2 rows in seed stitch: $^{*}({\mathsf{k}}1,{\mathsf{p}}1)$ to the end ofthe row. In the next row, knit the purls and purl the knits. Row 3 (setup row): slip the first stitch. Increase by k1, p1 into each of the next 2 stitches (4 stitches total). This will be the edge of the front. For a larger sweater, you can add more rows before separating the sleeves. Row 23: knitting the sleeves: slip the first stitch, k1 p1 k1 p1 (border in seed stitch), slip marker A, yo, k to marker A, slip marker A, yo, kto marker B, yo, slip marker B, k1 p1 k1 p1 k1, slip marker A, yo, k 11. Turn work. Row 24, sleeves: Slip first stitch, purl to marker A, k1 p1k1 p1k1, purl11. Turn work. This isthe first sleeve. Row 25 (sleeve stitches only): slip the first stitch, k2tog, k9 (to marker A), yo, slip marker A, k1 p1 k1 p1 k1 (shoulder strap in seed stitch), slip marker B, yo, k9, k2tog, k1. Row 26 (sleeve stitches only): slip the first stitch, p to marker B, k1 p1 k1 p1 k1 (shoulder strap in seed stitch), p to last stitch, k1. Repeat rows 25 and 26 on the sleeve stitches only for 20 rows or for the desired sleeve length. Rows 47 and 49 (sleeve stitches only, seed stitch edge): slip the first stitch, $^{*}(\mathsf{k}1\,\mathsf{p}1)$ , k the last stitch. Row 48 and 50 (sleeve stitches only, seed stitch edge): slip the first stitch, p the knit stitches and kthe purl stitches of the previous row, k the last stitch. Row 51: cast off sleeve stitches: slip the first stitch,\*( k1, slip both stitches to the left needle, k2tog, p1, slip both stitches to the left needle, k2tog). DO NOT CUT YARN. Hold both sleeve edges together; pick up stitches and knit up the underside of the sleeve, 2 stitches in each ridge. You'll end up back at row 23 with an extra stitch on your needle. Put marker C before that stitch, then slip it back on the left needle. Row 23 back on the body, one sleeve completed: continuing to knit toward the back, kto B marker, yo, slip B marker, k1, slip A marker, yo, kto B marker, yo, slip B marker, k1 p1 k1 p1 k1 (shoulder strap in seed stitch), slip A marker, yo, k 11. Turn work for the $2^{\mathsf{n d}}$ sleeve. Repeat directions for row 24 and on above for the $2^{\mathsf{n d}}$ sleeve. You'll end up back on the body with an extra stitch on the needle. Put marker C before that stitch, then slip it back on the left needle. Row 23 after both sleeves are completed: continue Kto the front edge of the body (right side): kto marker B, yo, slip marker, k to marker B, yo, slip marker, k1 p1 k1 p1 (front border), k1. Row 24 and every wrong row on the body, after both sleeves completed: slip the first stitch, p1 k1 p1 k1 (front border), p to marker of front border, p1 k1 p1 k1 (front border), k1. Row 51: repeat row 49 Row 52: repeat row 50 Row 53: cast off, following the directions for sleeve cast off above. Weave in the two ends (top and bottom). Add ties or buttons (using holes in the pattern for buttonholes) or other closures as desired. Modifications: you can have more rows before splitting the sleeves (adding both length and width), lengthen the sleeves, and/or lengthen the body before current rows 41 ff(adding length only). Enjoy!
