Using US 6 -4mm needle cast-on 154 (168, 174)sts. Being careful not to twist, join stitches to purl the first round. Place marker to indicate beginning of round. Work garter stitch for 4 more rows, ending with a purl row.
Main Pattern:
Switch to US 8-5mm needle to work main body pattern. (On first row place marker at halfway point) Rows 1-7: Knit.
Row 8: Purl
Repeat these 8 rows until piece measures 11" 28cm (12" 30.5cm, 13" 33cm) from cast on edge. Make note of your spot in the 8 row pattern repeat.
Divide for front and back:
At beginning of next round bind-off first 5sts, work to first marker, place stitches between first and second marker on a stitch holder. The Main Pattern will now be worked flat. Rows 1-7: Stockinette Stitch (Knit on RS, Purl on WS) Row 8: Purl on RS, Knit on WS

Front:
Picking up where you left off in the 8 row pattern bind-off first 5sts and work across. Continuing the main pattern begin the following decreases on ever RS row as follows: Dec Row: K2, k2togtbl, work to last 4sts, k2tog, k2. \*\*Work main pattern and decreases together until 43 (42, 45) stitches remain, ending after a wrong side row. Next row: Continue decreases at edge, bind-off center 9 (10, 11) stitches, work remaining stitches with decreases at edge. Join another piece of yarn and work straps separately. Continue decreases at edges until 12 (12, 14) stitches remain for each strap. Work main pattern without any shaping on each strap until piece measures 22" 55.9cm (23" 58.4cm, 24" 61cm) from cast on edge. Break yarn, leaving two 6" tails of yarn and place remaining stitches on stitch holder.
Back:
Place stitches for back onto US 8 needle, work back the same as the front to \*\*. Continue working main pattern and decreases together until 27 (28, 33) stitches remain, ending after a wS row. Next row: work main pattern as established without decreases, bind-off center 3 (4, 5) stitches, work to end of row. Join another piece of yarn and work 12 (12, 14) stitch straps separately until piece measures 22" 55.9cm (23" 58.4cm, 24" 61cm) from cast on edge (or front and back pieces match).
Finishing:
Join live stitches for front and back straps using kitchener stitch. Weave in ends, block to desired measurements. Optional : You can add a single stich crochet border around neck line to create a more finished look.
